I agree with that statement 110%. If this was Bowlers Journal awards, then you might have something. Not sure too many people would agree with some of those balls being the best of those categories..

I seem to remember about a year ago that Storm bowling balls dominated Bowling This Month''s Readers Choice Awards and no one had a problem with that. Now that it''s Brunswick it''s.......

Bowling This Month is a magazine dedicated to high average bowlers who actually know what they are doing and what they are talking about when it comes to bowling balls, surfaces, layouts, lane play, etc.

Bowler''s Journal International is geared towards the bowling center proprietor and/or manager who have a business to run.

I would put more stock in the opinions of those who regularly read BTM when it comes to opinions on bowling balls.

Roto/Storm dominated the ball of the year categories because that was determined by result of a poll of pro-shop owners (if I'm not mistaken).  Ask any dealer what the best product on the market is and the answer will be whichever manufacturer is giving them the most perks.  Ask bowlers which balls are best-I tend to think older Brunswick and Columbia balls are best.  Storm covers don't hold surface adjustments for long-they tend to smooth out pretty quickly (unless they're polished of course).  Plus they seem to be very prone to minor damage- nicks and scrapes.  My older Brunswick and Columbia balls have held up great.

101960 has made the most intelligent response so far...BTM is for bowlers by bowlers...every month they have the top writers writing about topics that mean the most to bowlers...every month, thought provoking articles cause you to think about our sport in a different way..you have no choice but to respect the opinions of its readers...Don't make excuses

Now before you read this, I throw Brunswick (check profile if you care).

Any poll or any type of article about "Best Bowling Ball", is strictly an opinion. It does not mean that it will perform the best for EVERY bowler or even the majority. If you think of how many mid performance balls come out a year, the majority vote to gain "Best Ball" might be 10-20% votes...does that even mean anything?

And as a side note...Why does it matter what company dominated on tour?
Most bowlers do not see those conditions, and tour bowlers (to name a few Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, Bill O'Neil) can throw ANYTHING during the week of qualifying but once they get on TV they have to throw the company that sponsors them. So just because Barnes throws a Pure Swing on TV doesn't mean he was throwing one all week.

I don't bowl on tour and I have had great success with Brunswick.

If I recall several years ago Brunswick cut all of it's top tour players.

Chris Barnes, Walter Ray, Ect ect ect.

When Brunswick had all of the top men and women pros on staff they dominated on tour. Obviously that isn't a concern anymore because of how much they have cut sponsorship. If you determine a product by what the pros do you would be limited.

Anybody notice since Columbia was bought out by Ebonite Barnes doesn't bring the wins like he used to?
