gap in aresenal - new or tried and true
« on: June 23, 2015, 06:54:00 AM »
Just recently purchased two new balls, a high volume and a low volume oil piece.

I know I need a good medium oil ball, with a different motion. Main question is:

Should I get a proven ball or wait til one of the new releases is out and give that a whirl?

I think this part really depends on you. If you can manage with the two different balls until the new ones are announced that might be better. Maybe just wait till bowl expo to see if anything new you like comes out

Look at RG and Diff........then make a selection based on cover strength.

Bowl Expo is going on right now this week. As for the OP, it all depends on what you want. New ball or one that's been out will probably be able to accomplish what you want

Unless you're in the top 1% of competitors world wide, there are already too many choices. Pick something that you've seen look good where you bowl or in videos from people who throw the ball similar to you. Bowl Expo will just add a bunch of hype that will further cloud the decision. No matter what you buy you might still have to adjust the surface, add/change a weight hole and play around on the lane to see how/where is rolls best. There is no magic pill that will fix everyone's problems. Pick something and don't play the what if question after your purchase.

There hasn't been anything really new in years.  There is a trend toward tamer smoother reacting equipment, probably as a result of the proliferation of tournament patterns, also as recognition that there is tremendous overkill in top end balls for house shots where there is already plenty of friction available.

Bottom line, there is currently a lot of mid performance equipment out there, and probably will soon be more, but nothing revolutionary compared to choices you already have.  Look at the specs you believe you need like rg, diff, and cover.
