GB2 vs. Cyclone
« on: October 16, 2014, 03:41:14 PM »
I know this is about 2 ebonite balls but want all input.

Gamebreaker 2

- Color: Black/Purple  (Colors may vary from picture shown)
 - Reaction: Strong Mid-Lane
 - Coverstock: GB 10.7
 - Factory Finish: 500, 2000 Abralon
 - Core: Enhanced V2
 - RG: 2.48 (15# ball)
 - Diff: .048 (15# ball)

Cyclone

- Coverstock: GB 10.7
 - Factory Finish: 4000 Abralon, Polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish Ball Polish
 - Core: Cyclone
 - RG: 16#-2.53 15#-2.53 14#-2.54
 - RG Diff: 16#-.047 15#-.053 14#-.053
 - Flare Potential: High
 - Length: (Scale 1-50, least to most) 28
 - Hook Potential: (Scale 1-50, least to most) 36
 - Hook Style: Length with Strong Backend Reaction
 - Best Lane Condition: Light to Medium Oil

Seems both balls have same cover, different finishes and similar core specs.

If you have a Cyclone finished to the same grit as the GB2 (2000 in this case), how much different would these balls be with the same drilling? (if you need bowler specs, use mine in my signature for this situation).

An RG of 2.48 is NOT similar to a core with an RG of 2.53!!

Cyclone has the 10.7 Pearl where the GB has a solid.

And as charlest said, HUGE difference in the cores.

You can get a Cyclone with the GB solid cover but it's a private pour and they cost $99 each.

So as to my thinking, what difference would I expect between that private solid cyclone and a GB2?

I am seriously considering the soild cyclone vs. the GB2.

Not Sure about the solid Cyclone, but I was just told the pearl might be the weakest reactive out. I thought they were way stronger than this...

For my THS, the cyclone is plenty...41ft Top Hat with 18 units in middle tapered out to 5.

Just from core design, the shape of the reaction will be later for the Cyclone than the GB2. 2 awesome balls.

GB2 needs head oil with OBB surface, awesome rolling piece, so versatile..
Cyclone is plenty strong for the price point, not weak at all

2 very good pieces IMO

Cyclone has the 10.7 Pearl where the GB has a solid.

When the Cyclone first came out, an EBo staffer said they were solids, not pearls. I had assumed that was true. Some of the more recent color variations do seem to have that pearlized look, but many manufacturers have said pearlization is just an appearance not a true pearl ball. I used one for q while that I believed was a solid and while the polish gave it a strongish backend, it was never flippy, like many true pearls are.

So, does any one have the true lowdown on whether all the standard Cyclones are solids or pearls?

I spoke with Rich Jacobson at Great Ball of Fire (the one who did the private run of the Cyclones at 2000 finish). He said that the production cyclones are a pearlized version of the GB10.7 but his run is a solid version (just like the GB2's).

Think I will order one this week of that private run.
