brunswick Power grove Reactive HELP
« on: August 25, 2004, 02:07:33 PM »
Help,  I was able to get a purple power grove reactive for free in a sales contest. It was the only bowling ball offered, so I selected it. My problem, or question actually is this.  Do you guys think its practical to get this ball drilled in such a way as to use it like I would a plastic ball, predominatly for spares, 10 pins really, and burnt conditions.  I am a stroker, mostly play a small belly shot or straight up about 10 when I can find it.  How should I drill it to use it this way. please psot your replies, thanks.....

Well it depends. Do you have an open spot in your arsenol that needs to be filled? I mean if you have no use for the ball, why not sell it, or trade it for something more useful. Or just keep it until a rainy day and get it drilled then. I mean it really all depends.

well yes, I have a need for a plastic spare ball. Maybe my question wasnt clear. Do you think I can get this ball drilled  for that shot. hard and sraight at a 10 pin, or will it still hook more than I need because of what kind of ball it is.

Hey, I am a stroker also. I have had a couple of these balls. To me the key is can you now throw your strike ball and get the ten pin? If you can you could probably use it. I don't think it is a dry lane ball though. I had one drilled pin over middle finger with cg in center of grip and it still moved quite a bit on the backend still. Maybe for light oil but think you would be better off with plastic or an older urethane for your purposes. Just my opinion though.

Thanks, cooksey

Let me warn you: Some people use this as a MEDIUM ball.  The only way to use it for 10's is to eliminate all side roll, kill your revs and speed up.  This is definitely not as weak as a spare ball.  It is a light to light/medium ball, like I said for some, medium too.

Though you could drill it so weak that it would behave like a spare ball, that's not what it's for.  You'd be better of selling/trading it and getting a plastic ball.

Not to mention it'd be a waste of a really nice ball.

I have this same ball that I use for burnt conditions, but I also use it for my spare ball too. It is drilled cg in the palm and the pin between the fingers, but it still has alot of movement if I make it move. But if I want to drill ten pins with it, it works great for that too. This ball is one of the best kept secrets in bowling. You won't regret drilling this one up!

Practical, no.  Possible, maybe.

Resin will still hook if you apply any revs.  If you can come straight up the back of the ball, you could probably put the pin on your axis or in your track, sand it to 2000, polish to 5000, apply several coats of Black Magic, several coats of Control-It, and 10 minutes in a wax machine to keep it from turning left if you accidently lift it some.  Seriously, this ball is stronger than most people think.  If it sniffs dry, it's going to hook.  The PG is probably the least likely $50 dollar resin ball I'd try to turn into a 10 pin ball.  Either drill it for med/light to medium conditions, sell it outright, or see if your proshop will let you trade it in for a plastic ball.

Take it to a pro shop and trade it for a plastic ball. Most pro shops would gladly trade for a plastic ball they sell for 59.99 for a resin they can get 100.00 for. they might be nice enough and throw in the drill for good customer service.
