I personally love the idea but don't think it is feasible. The bulk of most centers customer base is made up of recreational bowlers, open play, and parties/events. Plus, as mentioned, many people wouldn't want to, or wouldn't be accurate enough.
As far as the expenses that go along with maintaining and updating a center I am a firm believer that you get what you put into it.
There are tons of centers around my area and a handful have closed recently. These are the centers that never cared. Some proprietors want the money to keep flowing in without keeping pace with the changes that have come along.
The two most successful near me are Woodland Lanes and Plaza Lanes. Combined they have invested hundreds of thousands over the last 10 years and they are full almost every night.
