I'm assuming each manufacturer had a good get out the vote campaign, because I disagree with the majority of this list.

Agreed: wonder how many times each Motiv staffer voted ....

common sense says that list seems a bit on the biased / borderline insanity side of things. Not because my favorites weren't on there, but we got a nice size chunk of bowler population on this site alone, and the concentration of bowlers giving out rave reviews on Motiv stuff dont hold a candle wick to what the others are getting. Sounds like there was a nice chunk of change involved between the right folks to super boost some sales within a particular brand to me, just my 2 cents. I've heard Motiv puts out some quality stuff, no way in hell though do they pull a sweep like that in just one years timeframe without a little "boost"

I cant see how motiv is on this list -- i bowl in 3 leagues here in the Detroit metro area - and i do not see any  --- repeat any ---motiv balls on the rack. Storm - Roto - Ebonite brands only.

No doubt about it: Motiv makes some fine bowling balls. I have had a few of them, still do.
BUT they are nowhere near as popular as the main brands: Storm, Brunswick and Ebonite. Add the subsidiaries in there and some brands that have been around for a while and the lack of logic that says Motiv is the 2nd most popular ball brand of ball after Storm shows its presence.

Also for that matter how did a small brand like Roto-Grip get so many balls into the "awards". Not, RG fans, I didn't say a bad brand; I said a small brand and by any measure it is small.

Agreed.  Nobody using Motiv very much.  Younger guy on my team says nobody in his four other leagues uses Motiv either.  Interesting.

Well this isn't the actual "Ball of the Year" rankings.  It's the "Reader's Choice".

Storm's website reported some of the rankings, which included many Storm balls.

Ball of the Year

  1. Virtual Gravity Nano
  2. Marvel Pearl
  3. Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl

Pearl Reactive

  1. Marvel Pearl
  2. Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl
  1. Roto Grip Critical Theory

Solid Reactive

  1. Virtual Gravity Nano
  1. Victory Road Solid

Hybrid Reactive

  1. Frantic
  2. Roto Grip Infinite Theory
  1. Roto Grip Rising Star

Urethane

  1. Natural Pearl

Does anyone have all the rankings?

Yeah, not sure how they decided all of this, but considering the cost of print media it wouldn't be suprising if Motiv threw a few BTM's way.

Since it's a "readers" survey anyways it isn't likely that it holds much weight in the first place.

I've been a well known Lane#1 honk on this site for several years. But at the same time, I'm a ball whore and have balls from several other brands as well (Ebonite, Columbia, Track, Hammer, Motiv).

For Motiv, I have the Raptor P7 and Thrash. I've had the opportunity to test out the Primal for several games. The bottom line is that Motiv puts out very good equipment. I personally like the Raptor as an oiler better than the Virtual Gravity or World Beater, and the Thrash (a new 2012 offering) is as versatile a medium condition ball as you'll find from any company.

I'm finding Motiv to be one of the best kept secrets out there. If bowlers in general weren't such Lemmings and learned to experiment beyond the easy big boy choices, you'd see a lot more Motiv being thrown on the lanes.

For me it's more about knowing my equipment. Which is why I stay within one brand typically. I know what to expect and how to tailor my layouts very precisely because I stay within one brand of manufacturer. I love how the Motiv's look, but unless I went into a crazy slump it'll be years before I throw one.

If there is something that come's around that lights the world on fire, I have no problem giving it a go, but again for the most part I stay with what I know works.

It appears that I am late and behind as I just made a post in the Storm Forum about this just now not realizing a post had already been made here, so I will go back and delete the post.

Let me say a few things:

One, the Frantic is a very good ball. Not sure what you are disagreeing with. I have seen people throwing it and scoring well with it from a THS to Viper.

Second, while I don't disagree with the list persay, I do have one question. How is the Nano Pearl on this list? While I own one and think it is a very good ball, it only came out in what October or November 2011. That isn't a very big sample size to say its the 3rd best ball of the whole year. I would not be surprised to see it int he spot on next year's list but find it puzzling that it is here so soon. JMHO.

The Motiv QZ2 Backdraft is the only Motiv ball I have on the list and that is probably the best medium oil ball I've thrown since the Track 505C. But I have heard alot of good stuff about the Sigma Tour but only seen 1 person throw it.
