Anyone here own/run a bowling center?
« on: May 26, 2005, 05:00:43 AM »
I've noticed that a well developed area near me, with a giant mall, hotels, theme park, etc. could possibly use a state of the art bowling center.  I'm looking WAY in the future here, but any of you here have any experience with this, regarding what it takes, or have any recommendations where I can find the info?  There are some nasty old centers nearby, but no new classy ones.

All you need is a truck load of money and little desire to get it back.

1 is enough for me right now thank you very much.
one piece of advice. If you don't have 1 million in cash (that means don't borrow it but have that much in the bank)for the down payment don't even think about it.

Classy?  Bowling Alley?  HA HA HA!!  I've never seen a bowling alley with a big Cherry front desk, marble floors, gold plated ball returns, leather seating, and classy hand-stitched rental shoes polished to a mirror-like shine!  Don't forget to wear a suit and tie or you'll be kicked out! HA HA HA!!!

Sorry, had to have some fun with that one.  I'd check and double check with anyone in the know about demographic studies, business plans, and make absolutely sure it's a viable business proposition.  Sure, a new center would be cool, but don't let your dream push you into overlooking hard data if it turns up less than desirable.  Good luck!

And I'll probably hit Borders or the library and read up on starting your own business and whatnot.

IMO, this is not a tuff business to run, just that you need traffic, league bowlers.  Other than that you need great staff, a team of good mechanics, experience league manager and a reputable proshop operator.

Dont forget the arcade can make some good money also.
