Vise IT Kit
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:47:43 AM »
Just received mine yesterday and have to say I am quite impressed.  I have installed Thoms Thumb and Switch Grip and this appears to be a better product.  Will not know for sure until I try them out.  Still waiting for a new 1/2 drill bit to come in. (hate backorders)  My drills are cut to 5 1/2 inches and as most of you know, you have to go down 4 inches for the locking piece.  Most drills are either 6 or 6 1/2 inches in length.  Either will give me the depth I need.  Can't wait to drill out the first one.

OK, finally got to drill one up.

Dan, I have a question for you.  When I inserted the slug into the ball, it was almost a perfect fit.  It was a bit high on the side of the pitch and almost even on the side opposite the pitch.  my pitches are 1/8 right and 1/16 under.  I drilled the original hole until the collete touched the tape.  Also called Vise and they said the collete was set correctly.  Did you experience the same thing ?  My only thought is that if I drill a ball with say 3/8 pitch, the slug opposite the pitch will be below the hole. The collete is currently set to 3 9/16 (should be 3 1/2 according to Vise).  I am planning to reset it to 3 7/16.  Were your slugs almost even with the ball when you first inserted them and what are your pitches ?

It's been so long since I drilled my thumbs that I forget exactly how it happened.  I know that once I got the thumb itself drilled right, it fit exactly flush on all of my equipment.  However, I don't remember what exactly happened when drilling the inital slug itself.  For the record, my pitches are 1/8" reverse and 0 lateral.  raiderh20boy's worked with these quite a bit, he might be of help if you get in touch with him.

I have installed the "IT" with a 7/16 reverse pitch and had no problems. If you put the insert top under the collete you will see it should be about 1/8" longer than the outside edge (NOT POINT) of the drill bit. That will be the closest part of the insert to the ball surface when installed and then you can finish with bevel knife or plug cutter if you have a lot of confidence!!!!
Any more questions pm and I will try to answer.
The "IT" is simply THE BEST and there is now an adapter to be able to use in the 1 1/2" hole of the other brand!!!! I have put in 31 of these and everybody is SUPER HAPPY so far!!! REMEMBER.... the "IT" system has been tested with OVER 500 lbs of pressure and PASSED with flying colors!

So with the Vise "IT", is the amount of thumb weight that would be taken out in drilling going to be less compared to the other interchangeable thumbs? Just asking because I hear that is the downfall of the other interchangable thumbs?

I am buying a ball with this "IT" in it minus the inner thumb insert. Where can I get the inner thumb insert? Thanks for any info.

I have found that its adding approx 1/8-3/16 oz to fingers I just get a smaller bit than the finger sizes and drill out a little deeper and re scale for same weights.

For Dyno thane 300
You will have to go to a pro shop that has the "IT" system. The thumb insert with the locking system will have to be drilled to your specs. Keep in mind that the pitch that is drilled into the ball already is the pitch you will have to use. The insert is drilled for you at 0-0 and slides into the drilled pitch. If the pitches are close no problem!
