building hand strength
« on: April 12, 2009, 07:32:17 AM »
i am a little guy have a high backswing and i need to build on my hand strength so i can get more revolutions i am looking to get at least into the mid 300s (because as i grow i predict my rev rate will rise correct me if i'm wrong). i have no lack of raising and lowering ballspeed but i would like to build up my hand strength to get more revolutions on the ball. i do work the deep inside of the ball but i do not want any cupping in my game i try to keep my wrist strait and not put any pressure on my arm

Strength has NOTHING to do with revolutions. It's the technique of clearing the thumb and fingers correctly and the lift you impart with your fingers that gives a ball the revolutions you're looking for.
Yes, you will get stronger as you get older, but that also does NOT mean you'll increase your rev rate as you grow.
I lift weights every day and also do work on wrist and hand strength, plus my work is physical. Suffice it to say that I'm fairly strong. I was trained to be a stroker and let the ball do the work.
Practice and concentrate on accuracy and spare making. You'll find those will increase your scores more than a few extra revs will.

nd300 is right, to a extent. A lot of core work outs, and wrist/hand/forearm/arm strength will help, but, that's if the correct technique is being used, like he said. Squeezing a stress ball will help your finger/hand/wrist/forearm strength a lot, and they're about $2-3 bucks. But again like nd said, most of it will come from a technique, and getting around the ball more.
