Anyone Throw 15s and 16s?
« on: April 12, 2009, 03:38:43 AM »
I've thrown 15s forever.  I generally throw about 18 mph with a decent number of revs.

How much of a difference will I notice if I start transitioning into 16s?  I don't really want to waste the money on one if my average will drop significantly with it.

There is a difference, I throw all 16 except for one ball at 15 7oz and one at 14 15oz. I don't notice the one at 15 but the one just under 15 is enough that I notice and I do get a little more speed on the ball. It is a good ball to switch to if I'm getting tired at a long tournament. I don't see any difference in RPM with the different weight, just a little speed.

I throw mostly 16 with a few 15s thrown in when I cant carry or cant get the look I want I can simply drop to my 15s and be carrying all night then nights I start with 15 I can go to 16 and fix carry issues for me I dont know why but it works. I think it simply changes my timing just enough to change the entry angle and such into the pocket.

Not really something I can verify with a solid source, but I've heard that Norm Duke actually uses both 15# and 16# equipment.

Apparently the school of thought is this -
15# = better carry if you swing it...
16# = better carry if you play down and in...

Its all about angle simple as that you can change your angle by changing balls and changing weights. I bet you give somebody a 15lb and a 16lb gravity shift both set up EXACTLY the same you can switch between them to change your carry.

I use 15s and 16s, and even a couple of 14s. Yes, I can tell somewhat of a difference between the 15s and 16s in terms of how they feel. But as long as the ball is drilled properly, I don't think it's as big a conscious difference as some people say. I do notice some fatigue issues with 16-pound equipment if I'm throwing a lot of games.

Stepping down to 14s? BIG feel difference there.
