Hello,

I finally have a job where I can build an arsenal and not just have one Ball. I found out I'm picking out the correct bowling balls so far. I have picked out the Motiv Revolt and the Tank. I picked the Tank because I found in real dry conditions I like to be near the gutter hit the first arrow and slam into the pocket. This ball is great for that. Granted there isn't a lot of room for error, but being that close to the gutter there isn't room for error anyway. I bought the Revolt for mid to oil conditions. I love the angle and how it reacts on the lane. I never had a ball like this before, I see the potential. What I'm debating about next is what ball I should get next. Thinking I should get my benchmark ball or inside shot ball, but unsure. The next bowling balls I'm considering are: The Xeno, Brunswick Magnitude, Brunswick Inferno, the Pyramid Blueprint, Pyramid Paradise or the Ebonite Cyclone. I'm leaning toward the Xeno, Magnitude, or Inferno. What do you think? Do you have another suggestion? I'm a low rev player, right handed, I'm at about 165 average, was at 180 but had to take a three year break. My goal is to be consistent. I throw a hook but not a large one. Ideally wanting to have a six ball arsenal. One for heavy oil with a larger hook but nothing "extreme", a mid to oil ball more of an outside shot with a good angle but with control (Revolt), a mid to heavy oil Condition ball for an inside shot with a very even arc, a dry to mid condition ball for an inside shot with a very even arc , a mid to dry for an outside shot, and for real dry conditions or for my outside shot (Tank). What do I get next? I'm not comfortable yet standing way on the left and having a huge hook. The ball I used for years, probably way to long was the Brunswick Copperhead. Still have it. My best day with that ball was a couple months ago and had in league a 210, 185, 215. What do you think? Have any other suggestions? Why are you making this suggestion?

Didn't read much, I did see a 165 avg and 6 balls. That's way too much. At your average, 1 ball with surface and one shiny and a urethane spare ball that doubles as a dry lane ball.

Agreed; You need to focus more on your mechanics, fundamentals, and learn how to play the lanes, and pick up spares.

If you need to, find a certified coach to also help you with your game as you continue to evolve. As you improve, then you can continue to build on a arsenal, and add the necessary pieces to build your arsenal.

I also many years ago focused more on a arsenal first and paid the price for it. Equipment are tools to compliment hiw your game is ( versatility), not the other way around. Once you understand these diameters, then the game becomes simple and easy.

Now that my game is completely where it needs to be, Now the 2 dozen balls I have (never needed more than 6) will help me in all conditions I face as I go along continuing to get better. Hope this helps you, good luck.

The purpose of an arsenal is to have balls that give you different shapes at the break point. Until you get to the point you can move around and get lined up on a house shot with almost any ball, having an arsenal will prove of little value.

I'm working on everything you guys have said and I appreciate the reminder. Before I took three years off (because of a move and money) I had a 180 average. I was at the point where ONE ball wasn't good enough either. I do need to learn more and improve on my mechanics, but like I said earlier, I also realize ONE ball isn't enough as well. Hear the balance?

I don't believe for one second a piece of equipment is the answer. I'm looking for bowling balls to help me go beyond a 180 average and "HELP" me on different lane conditions while keeping in mind how I bowl. I'd love to have a coach but I can't afford one at this time. I do take advice, study, and ask questions of other bowlers.

What I'm looking for is a MAX of five or six balls. The reason for six, is I want to cover a variety of lane conditions and the different area's of the lane I throw the ball. An example of this is my Rebel Tank. In very dry conditions to terrible I tend to end up way on the right of the lane, near the gutter, and have the ball break very hard into the pocket. I purposely went bowling at a time when this would be the condition and the Rebel Tank was a great choice. I was looking for a ball for mid to oil lane conditions, with angle, with a later breakpoint where the ball stayed in front of me. I've realized, after practicing, my Revolt was a great choice for me. I've never owned a ball like this but I see the potential and love how this hits the pocket. I was thinking a Mid to dry ball where I could throw the ball over the third arrow might be helpful, maybe I don't need this one, but I found myself throwing this at a league I'm on. I also throw a very even over the middle shot. I was debating if I should have two bowling balls that cover this area. One for mid to dry and another for mid to oil. Or should I go with one ball that is more of a bench mark ball to cover both. If I went this way I'd get a spare ball. I go back and forth with the idea of a spare ball. After I'm better; I'd consider a heavy oil high perfomance ball. I have difficulty rolling a ball with a real wide hook covering the whole lane, but I see the value in it, I'm not there yet.

I did read your whole post, and understand that you are a 180 caliber player who can move around on the lane. However unless that 180 was gonna very demanding condition, I would stand by my original post. I have no problem with you building an arsenal, but would suggest you ask yourself where your weaknesses are, and what some specific goals are. My gut feeling is that unless you are approaching 200 on a house shot, expanding your arsenal may not be the highest priority in getting to the next level.

Bottom line the game is about having fun. If experimenting with equipment is enjoyable for you, go for it

I rewrote my answer. I had a tooth extracted a couple days ago. After I posted it I realized I was being "snippy." Whats tough I was at the point before I had a break where one ball wasn't enough.

To my surprise. I was asked to bowl on a couple tournments. I only have bowled on my current league for a couple months and I don't know why they'd ask me too. So I was thinking I needed to be better prepared. Assumed, one ball would be, very unprepared.

I learned that there is no such thing as a magic ball; the game today is all about revolutions and speed, covering as many boards as possible and going 50 ft and turning hard at the end ( long and strong).

I've learned as I mentioned above it's all about your mechanics, having good timing, balance, and footwork, to be able to REPEAT good shots, being prepared to be ahead of the transition, and to know how to mulnipulate ball reaction with a number of hand changes (side roll, forward roll, etc), Along with great spare shooting.

These are all the basics and the BASIS of being a good/great bowler, one other thing; If you are NOT mentally strong, you have no change at being a good and consistent bowler. While all bowling balls have their place, they Cannot hook themselves, bowlers' and their ability to you Munipulate the ball in different factors will ALWAYS have the most success.

If you want to go down this road, stay with symmetrical balls and smoother covers. Last thing you need while at your average level is a shiny flippy assym in the bag magnifying your release mistakes. You might have been 180 before, but we need to look at what you are now. Do spare drills, get to the line solid, take lessons, buy equipment, bowl tournaments.

Lefty I loved your advice. I've been working on that for years. I've had more than one person at my last league tell me I have three different shots. I do have an outside shot, an inside shot, and one sort of in between. I agree about the spare game. What I've lost is my consistent spare game. The last league I was in I was missing spares I wasn't missing before my break. I also agree the ball only does what I tell it. My big phiosphy which has helped me develop these different shots, but is so difficult to remember sometimes, take what the lane will give you. I remind myself it's not what I want the ball to do, it's what the lane is giving me, and then to take advantage of it.

I'm always working on my mechanics. At one time I threw a backup ball, I corrected that. I had a terrible approach, but I'm continuing to work on that. I'm learning when to simply step forward or backward instead of moving left or right. I'm not complacent.

My current goal is simply clean games. I'll get there. I see there is a balance here. To assume one type of ball will get me there, I've found is inaccurate. Just as the idea the next "Great" ball will get me there. Or, to buy five balls, and they are exactly the same with a different name. As an example, I don't want to get all pearl coverstock balls to handle mid to oil lanes. I'm being careful and trying to make wise choices. I can't afford to waste 75 to 200 on a ball.

It's why I'm seeking advice.

why don't you like "asymetrical" balls?
