Baiki (sorry if its spelled wrong) is another.
Mine is made from a tumble dryer motor bolted to the side of my garage. Then boxed in with strong timber. I used a sheet of wood made from 2x1's all stuck together. I used steel angle to strengthen the top of the box. Then on the outside on the left hand side I fixed a water pump from a car. Dont know the model, I just picked one up at a scrap yard and was told I could have it gratis.
I made sure that the top of the pully on the motor was at the same hight as the larger pully on the water pump. Then bolted the pump in place with 4 bolts.
Now the hard part. Find a dish that is the perfect size for a ball. I used a stainless steel dogs dish. It took some finding and its fun walking around shops carrying a bowling ball and sticking it in loads of dishes. I must admit I had more than a few strange looks.
I drilled 3 holes in the pully and sandwiched the dish base between 2 circles of steel plate (only thin stuff) for added strength. Then bolted this lot onto the pully with 3 small bolts.
Its all pretty simple, but you do have to find a belt that fits perfectly from pully to pully and make sure that the size of the pully used on the motor spindle isnt too large that it makes the dish spin too fast. Also you do have to spend most of the time getting the whole thing bang on square or else!!! The garage tries to take off!!
Ive probably missed a bit, but if no one else chimes in with an easier setup then I'll have a good go at getting it all together for you.
All in all the whole thing cost me about $15 and took 2 days to complete. I did have the old tumble dryer with all of the electrics that I needed intact, so thats why the cost was so low.
As I say Baiki's sounds a bit easier to me, but I bet his garage never tried to fly when he was building his,
And I'll bet you his is not nearly as bomb proof as mine.--------------------

Try messaging baiki. He was/is the Maytag repairman where he lives. He sent me some pictures of a ball spinner he made himself. I have since lost the photos but I am sure he could help you.
Just this morning I thought building a ball spinner might be my project for the week. I have shop and most of the necessary parts.
If I get started, maybe I will document the process with photos.

I'd love to see a photo tutorial, as I'm sure most others would too.
I'f I could get a hold of some part numbers, I'd try to build it just so I could document the process. Could be a fun project. I'm not a big do-it-yourself'er but I'm sure lots of bowlers are.

glad you have the time and materials to do it because I don't.. Also, I just had a spinner for sale last week for $105 plus ship and another user (dstanek) bought it and loves it..
I was just saying its not worth it to me.. I also don't have the patience to do it either!! LOL..

My bowl is from a Civic"s rear drum brake. I can drop the ball onto it without fear that I'll whack the bowl out of shape.
I have all parts available including the motor. So it's just a matter of time to assemble it. I've used it for more than 10 years now and have no problem. Last year I made a new base for it to make it more presentable and lighter. Fellow bowlers borrows it home off and on so it's in constant use.
I still have pictures on a folder in my computer. Anyone wishes to see it can message me their email address and I'll send it out.

My garage is the basement of my house. If that goes, my house will too.
Seriously my spinner only runs at one speed. 500 RPM. I can make it 2 speed if I have a 2 speed motor. That alone will cost me C$ 130.00 to buy.
I think your driven pulley is too small. Your dryer motor will run at 1175 RPM normal or 3350 RPM if it's a furnace motor. To get the RPM you want at the bowl just use this formula.
Final RPM = drive pulley dia. divide by driven pulley dia.
Around 4 to 600 RPM will work best without too much off balance and vibration.

I can pick up a new 5 speed drill press for about $40...1/2 inch spindle...steel dog bowl and it should be done for under $60....

When it was giving the garage a good old flight test I would estimate it about 8-900 RPM.
As you can quess I soon found a smaller pully
, balls were flying everywhere.Boy do I love to experiment.........

If they don't have it, they'll be able to tell you where to get it. Most fractional HP motors are available in 2 speeds. You'll need to install a STSP (Single Throw Single Pole) switch to select speed. You can also ask for a flange mounted frame for the motor for a stronger mounting.

This is a true case. Friend of mine wants to make his own spinner. He have a motor. He have a aluminium cast pot for the bowl. Instead of having a belt drive and pulleys to reduce the speed he mounted the motor onto a wood stool and have the bowl mount straight onto the motor. He got it to work but was very quiet about it. One day I was talking to his elder brother and he told me that they have to drive their cars away when he use it. Have to press down onto the ball all the time and the ball always end up with the CG on top. When I ask him where his motor comes from he said it's a spare furnace motor. You guess it. 3340 RPM.
Makes a pretty good determinator though to find the heavy spot of the ball.

I have a small 1/3 HP drill press. One of the el-cheapo models. It will not work as I was able to stop the motor with only a gloved hand.
Today, I am going to take an old, electric motor and remove the armature. My thinking is that the armature will act as a flywheel to maintain speed and torque. The motor's shaft is either 1/2" or 5/8" and should be ideal for a spinner.
I will update this post when I find the suitable parts.
