Bulk Order
« on: November 09, 2013, 09:37:03 AM »
Does anyone know if there's anywhere someone can place a bulk order for bowling balls and get a discount?  So far, I've got about 6 balls I know of I could order, and in the next couple months when they are all available, I could probably have about 12-20 in one order.  If there isn't a place to make this order, it'll be ok, but i'm just trying to check all my options

What exactly are you looking to order?

Talk to your proshop. I'm pretty sure they are willing to cut a good deal for someone buying in bulk. It brings the possibility of charging to drill, paid labor (drilling + grips and slug), and the opportunity to win over new customers.
If not then talk to a website like buddies. I'm pretty sure they'll cut you a deal for buying in bulk. but as a shop operator, I encourage you to support your brick and mortar. ;) lol!

Thanks for the info.  I've got two proshops i'm gonna approach, and if neither will do it, i'll go with buddies first if someone doesn't suggest a more sure fire first

If you get 6 people up on the Hyper Cell, I'm pretty sure any shop would be willing to make some sort of deal with you, especially you're buying them all at once.

Not my business, but, is the proshop going to be drilling them?

I'm going to play the other side here.  Do you get a discount if you go out to dinner with 6 people?

There is a big difference for a pro shop drilling 6 balls for 1 person vs. 1 ball for 6 different people.

Very true. Ordering 6 or more bowling balls you can get a discount. 6 different people having one drilled at a proshop is still work for 6 different people. Now he may offer a littler price break if you all come in and pay upfront ect. It isn't the same as if you had it for say one or two bowlers.

Very true. I can only speak for myself. If you come in and buy 6 Balls at once, I'm going to quote you a price on taking them home undrilled and drilled. I'm going to cut a deal on drilling for buying 6 balls because I want that business. Some may not.

we all use the same shop, down where I used to live.  We are just seeing if there is any buying power available to get us all a deal.  If the difference in price getting them elsewhere and paying for drilling there isn't much difference, we'll all just order from him.  We obviously have time to shop,

To the Pro Shop in the bowling alley where I live now, I'm going to ask  as nicely as possible, if I ordered 6 balls through you and your distributor, cash up front, can we get a price just above cost.  It will really be free money for them if they take it.

Let me guess, you want if for cost and you want to pay for it with a credit card to get the points.

Why is it everyone wants a great pro shop to go to but is unwilling to let them earn a living?  This conversation is pissing me off and I work for an online guy.  Do you really think there is that much margin in a bowling ball?  This isn't jewelry.

Really?  it's called shopping around.  I'm more than willing to let the locals make money.  But isn't it also my option to see if there is a way to save money?  There's still nearly 2 months left until it's even available, plenty of time to get feeler out there to see what the options are.

And if it pisses you off, i'm sorry i'm checking on my options.

You aren't willing to let anyone make any money, you want a price "just above cost".

As I said, everyone wants a well stocked pro shop with state of the art equipment and ball drillers that can give you the magic ball reaction and then wants to beat them up on price in a business that even great places are barely able to survive.  Just a heads up, there ain't anybody getting rich in the pro shop business.

From my experience most online sellers sell at a price that is just slightly over (within $10) of the wholesale cost from distributors. I'm not sure how they could discount it much and still make anything.

They sell lots of balls each day, banking on volume, and I don't think a 6 ball order would hardly be a blip on their radar.

For a stand alone shop selling a bunch of new balls in box just above wholesale doesn't make them anything and may cost them future sales of the ball. It would only make some sense if they would it a volume break price point from their distributor and get some assurance the balls would be drilled in house at their normal drilling fees.
