Bunch of liberals . .
« on: February 11, 2014, 10:14:23 AM »
I've never understood the idea of one person having freedom at the expense of someone else's . . but people seem to think that's perfectly ok.  Everytime the debate of bowling being too easy comes up, all the big score loving house bowlers get all up in arms to defend themselves from the attacks of the elitist snobby scratch bowlers.  Whoever said recreational bowling had to die?  Whoever said house shots had to die?  All I'm saying is I want competition and challenge available, and I'd scoot my happy little ass off in that direction and never say another word about it.  What's with the all or nothing attitude?  Just because you don't support someone else's opinion doesn't mean you can't still support their right to have it.  I don't look down on anyone because they have fun bowling a handicap league on a house shot, a couple of the better or more "fun" leagues in town are exactly that.  But you know you show up for those with a few friends, and everybody accuses you of loading up a team to try and run the league and almost kick you out . .

If it's supposed to be fun, what's with the handicappers getting butthurt about losing?  The better bowlers don't become bitter and pissy over nothing, they get pissy about the constant persecution for one reason or another.  Either they get ridiculed for being "serious," or for putting time and effort in, or for "ruining" leagues, or countless other things.  But boy the house shot handicappers sure don't like it when the argument gets turned around.

Is there a way for everyone to be happy?  It's supposed to be fun, and different people define fun in different ways.  Your fun shouldn't be at the expense of someone else's, nor should you persecute others for how they choose to have fun.  Lol, can't we all just get along?

Watch it, Coach.  I corrected your post! ;) ;D

Lol yeah liberals . . extreme liberals albeit.  Always screaming for freedom, but their freedom is always at the expense of someone else's.  Was going for a controversial title . .

I have 2 jobs, work 6 days a week, bowl 2 leagues, one of which is an hour and a half round trip drive, I'm on our city board, have a senior in high school and an 11 year old stepson.  You tell me where the time and money is at for all that and I'll sign up.  Why is it always extremes?  I don't have the opportunity to bowl on tough stuff to prepare in the first place.  You can't build anything by starting with the 4th or 5th floor, you start at the bottom and build it up.  Plus I'm trying to get something going in my area, not run off and join the tour.  Wanting a challenge and trying to make a living doing something that very few actually make a living are two incredibly different things.  Just trying to pick a fight for no reason.

Want a challenge?  Make a living bowling scratch tournaments every week, everywhere, on any shot, and win them.  Plenty amateur guys are still doing it.  Rob Gotchall, Adam Barta, George Gohagan, and a few dozen more.  The challenege is there.  Do you have the balls to shoe up and get better?  Or do you want to sound like you're clamoring for change.

You can be a part of a movement, or you can talk about one.  But you can't do both.

Just messin around. ;)

Everyone entitled to their own opinion.  That is, until you get over to the unmoderated non-bowling forum, then it's no holds barred. :o

Oh yeah, I've been there before. I'm not even a liberal, but my not-typical views got my head bitten off before I could say, "HEY"

Just messin around. ;)

Just for example's sake, Adam Barta has a full time job, two kids (teenagers I believe?), does a ton of community/charity/staff work with Hammer to give back to the sport and still makes the rounds as a weekend warrior.  He's a great ambassador to the game and is someone who should be admired for all that they do for the game that they love.

It's not my job to tell you where to find time to do all of this.  I just posed a scenario to an open discussion you started.  Quite frankly, I don't know who you are, I don't care who you are, and I don't care if you have the ability or desire to take your game to the next level.  I only see your passive aggressive rants complaining about what you can't do, and taking every chance to pat yourself on the back about the little that you can do.

As far as trying to pick a fight... miss me with the passive aggressive BS.  Your post and it's topic is meant to stir up controversy.  To me this is hilarious, for someone with two jobs, kids, on your city board, (...etc), that you can't resist starting some type of drama daily on a message board to elicit some attention.  Like you're some type of "working man's hero" or martyr to the game of bowling.

As far as "showing you where these tournaments are", there's a website http://www.google.com that will give you the answer to any question about anything that you may have.

As far as my first post, it was a general blanket statement for anyone wondering "what's left?" with the sport of bowling.  The fact that you took offense directly, tells me that it cut a little bit deep and that it holds some truth to you.  Anyways, you're a big boy, you should be able to take some backlash.  That will be my last and only direct response to you, ever.

I haven't been in bowling my whole life, and yeah I get a bit defensive when I hear the same old stuff all the time.  I say I want a challenge, and everybody goes straight to the PBA tour, I just want a local league with a tough shot.  I'm not getting chippy because you "cut too deep," I'm chippy because you went way off the reservation with what we're talking about here.

And I'm not starting drama or controversy to light a fire, I'm talking about touchy subjects to see where people stand because there's tons of things to learn from that.  I don't like talking about the same old boring crap all the time.  I get tons of stuff out of the discussions here that helps me in tough situations with stubborn people.  Anybody can deal with pleasant reasonable people in normal situations.

Again, can't do the weekend warrior thing, work 6 days a week.  If I used Sunday to go bowl tournaments, my wife would kill me.  You're just like a little kid with a stick here making inflammatory statements and then trying to scoot right away like you're above it all.  Act all tough with your extreme put up or shut up attitude, then get your last opinion in and try to end the conversation.  Way to contribute.

You want to have an objective conversation, but you then get completely defensive when somebody adds their observations.

I don't get defensive, I get pissed when people get completely off the topic, and how is being bored with the topics here connected in any way to me being busy?  That's exactly what I'm talking about.  I'm fine with observations as long as they're relevant.  I say I want a challenge and am trying to get a league started here, and everybody goes straight for huge tournaments and the PBA.  I say I'm bored, and some how you connect that with not being busy?  That's just ridiculous, no contribution whatsoever.  LGD has nailed me to the wall a couple times over some things, but he was on topic, and on target, he was at least taking me to task over what we were talking about.  Everybody here just jumps on and throws stones, nobody wants to talk or debate about anything.  You know, I think my problem is this damn site.  I never used to be bitter or pissy at all before I showed up here a decade ago and got knocked around.  I don't know why I can't just post something and have a good debate about something without people getting off topic and just getting stupid.  Everybody starts throwing digs and getting all pissy and then I'm at fault when I say something about it?

Two things to add.

A wise man once told me, if it's something you really want to do you will find the time to do it.

There is a HUGE difference between supplementing your income with bowling and earning a living bowling.

Hey Giz,

My personal experience on this board is the following.

You probably are not going to change any opinions here in a debate.

As soon as someone starts losing a debate on this board, out come the personal attacks.

The other key thing to remember is that bowlers come from all walks of life.

There are bowlers whose sole income comes from bowling.  So anything you propose that potentially takes food off their table will be met with backlash.

Then on the other end of the spectrum there are bowlers who are casual league bowlers who just want their awards when they deserve them.  They don't give a dam about PBA, sport bowling, junior bowling, the future of bowling, the technical side of bowling etc...

And everyone else falls in between.

And every new idea, or rule change that comes along, is going to piss one or more of these groups off.  That is the challenge the USBC faces and in a small way, a poster on this board faces.

Thanks . . all the extra time I have goes into bowling, but it might not be me myself actually bowling or competing.  At some point the family needs some time too.

And that's exactly what I'm talking about, I'm not trying to make a career out of me bowling tournaments, I just want to have some fun, and having fun for me is just having a challenge.  But having a challenge can just be trying to conquer a tough pattern, it doesn't have to come from winning tournaments or beating people.  I don't know why everybody has to take everything off the deep end.

Two things to add.

Yeah I'm beginning to realize that.  Here's my deal, I get an idea, and I sit and think it over.  I just use some logic and reasoning to end up at a completely mental conclusion.  I post my conclusion or "argument" here to see where it goes.  Instead of getting reasonable conversation or a debate, people have to get off topic and start throwing darts, that's what pisses me off.  I don't want a pissing contest, I don't want drama, I don't want all this petty childish BS, I want an honest, deep conversation or debate.  Just because someone has a strong opinion doesn't mean it's deep rooted and emotional, if I have a strong opinion it's because I've thought it over several times and haven't seemed to find a hole in it.  That's why I bring it here, because only an ignorant person would believe there's nothing wrong with an idea or opinion just because they couldn't find a problem with it.  Of course I'm going to defend my opinion, it's my opinion!  Especially when people start dragging the topic off the rails.  I also have a really short memory.  If somebody proves me wrong, I adjust and go on, but later on everyone tries to go back and apply old opinions to what I'm talking about now.  If I said something a month ago, and was proven wrong, why the hell would I still think that way?  Just because I said something a month ago doesn't mean it holds any relevance now.  If one of my kids said that blue was their favorite color, I'm not going to go, "Oh well wait now!  You just said it was green last month!  You're a liar!"  Green very well might have been their favorite color, if it's blue now, ok!  No one is objective, no one stops and thinks, they just see an opportunity to throw gas on the fire and go for it.
