buying a spinner
« on: April 24, 2008, 01:10:02 AM »
I am looking at picking up a spinner. What other supplies should I be looking at to start?

Thanks

charlest with such a deatiled response as that, I have to ask at what level of bowling you do ?

no THS house hack would nowhere near all that, so I'm guessing you bowl Tourney and are PBA member?

You can get by without as many polish/cleaner/abrasives as he said but if you want to be covered for anything, charlest's list is pretty close to everything you'll need.

This end of bowling is NOT cheap.

You certainly don;t need everyhting I have.

One of each type of polish, abrasive and non-abrasive.
Abralon and sandpaper and nylon pads are essential.

one or two types of cleaners.

Paper towels and cloth rags are essential.

spray water bottle, etc

I keep by my spinner:

Bucket o' water
Spray bottle o'water
Small towels for applying/buffing polishes
Bigger towel for wiping down ball between sanding steps

220 grit sandpaper
Maroon, green, gray scotchbrite
500,1000,2000,4000 grit abralon (hooray Supergrit!)

Track (Now Powerhouse) Clean n Dull
Track (Now Powerhouse) Clean n Sheen
Track (Now Powerhouse) Magic Shine
Brunswick Factory finish polish
Brunswick Rough Buff
Legends Polish

I've had mixed results using the gritted polishes (Clean n Sheen, Rough Buff) so I tend to stick to using the Magic Shine or Brunswick polish with varying surface grit.

Char,  They are oldies, but they were goodies in their day.

I am surprised that you did not have any old Ebonite polish left.
600, 900, 1500. 2000, 3000, 5000.  Or did I miss seeing it.

Those were the days.

Nice post Char.

I just got my spinner, but I'm keeping everything a bit more simple for now.
What I have next to my spinner is:
3 types of cleaners : Powerhouse Ball Cleaner , Power House Clean N' Dull , Brunswick Remove-All
2 Types of polishes : Powerhouse Particle Polish , Brunswick High Gloss Polish
2 large rags just for polishing
Paper towels
Spray bottle filled w/ water
A few pieces of white textured tape
Abralon Pads: (1) 180 grit (1) 360 grit (1) 500 grit (3) 1000 grit (3) 2000 grit
(1) 4000 grit
