Title: Buying blems or X-outs off Ebay
Post by: jkiser01 on March 25, 2004, 04:39:27 AM
Here is a reason why NOT to buy blems or X-outs. I bought a Ebonite Predator Pursuit of Ebay from user Bowlingball.com. It was advertised as having small, non perfomance color issues as why it was being sold as an X-out. Well, I received the ball today and the pin is INSIDE the CG and the bomb (mass bias) is 1 inch away from the cg and pin. Basically this ball is totally undrillable and cannot be used for anything other than a multicolored boat anchor..

I emailed the seller and am hoping he makes things right. My question to anyone here assocciated with Ebonite is how and why do these balls even get sold. With these specs, the balls cannot be used so they should be thrown away!!

Just wanted to share this nightmare with anyone looking to buy a blem, don't do it unless you see the ball first and can verify the specs will allow you to drill the ball up and use it..

I got a V-2 Strong X-out, and it has a 2 inch pin .

But the only thing really wrong with the ball is there is small yellow flakes of paint in the surface...

drillwizard,

I have bought off ebay for years and had something like this happen 2 times.. Not a bad ratio for all the money I have saved..

I am sure this seller (14,000 positives and 161 negatives) will make things right for me. I was just trying to prove a point, not to buy x-outs. Buying 1st run balls on Ebay form reputable sellers is a great way to save alot of money..

I agree with yours being screwy but disagree to stay away from x-outs and blems. I have bought 2 players and 2 shooters xl's from bowlingball.com and i use one of the players every week and it rolls and hits great. The psa is on top of the ball instead of below the thumb but i have shot a low series of 767 of 4 games in the past two months i have had the ball so 8 series 5 over 800 for 4 games and 3 series under 800. Every ball works great and for the high price of 85.00 shipped for one of them and some for 77.00 shipped , i will keep on buying these balls. Call the guy up and request your pin out like i do in special instructions on checkout he always gets me at least a 2-3 pin if he is out of 3-4 like i prefer. From ballcellar.com on ebay i have won 2 addictions for under a 100.00 shipped and left undrilled and i am keeping these until my other addictions die and then i am already set slap a 20.00 to my driller and i am back in action. So give i think his name is keith a chance to me he is a cool guy and i have done 11 DEALS WITH HIM ALREADY. I also like David the drillwizard also he is always top notch on here and ebay, good luck-barry

I agree with mrbowlingnut, but if you are nervous about an X-out or blem, then don't buy one - You can find TONS of first quality equipment on ebay for cheap - especially discontinued balls. I think that the example was a TPC ball - If you pay attention and watch a series of various auctions, you can get one for 40-50 shipped --Players or Shooters or anything else discontinued. Even an X-out is good buy for a "test" ball or any application where you don't want to drop $100+ on an "experiment".....

I was not nervous about buying a blem but their posting made it sound like the blem was due to a small, non performance issue such as off color. This balls color is fine, its the specs that are screwed up. They should post this in the auction and they didn't. Thats why I am not happy..

Update on this sitaution.. I called and spoke to customer service and they are sending me a new ball with a longer pin. This guy was great and completely understood my dilemma.

He also told me the bombs (mass bias) where all mismarked at the factory and they are actually located 6 3/4 stright down from the pin.

I had a non-performance color flaw in a KO Punch years ago.  The ball was dirt cheep and worked fine.  That's my only x-out story!
