buying online doesnt always = cheaper
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:46:25 PM »
So for Christmas, I got a new Tropical Heat, and dropped it off @ the local pro-shop so my pro-shop buddy can drill it up for me..... Since he wasnt able to finish it before I had to goto work, i asked him how much it was going to cost......    And hes like ummmmm 50$ w 2n1 switch grip sleeve..... so i hand him the $ and head to work.....

And I know there was a thread on here about how Pro-shops are just bending everyone over......

Well buying the ball thru the pro-shop or online.... the cost turned out to be the same...........  So it's not like I or my parents woulda saved any money on the ball.......

So not all pro-shops are out to bend you over....

True. Also remember like in any business the markup is in the accessories. Thumb inserts, finger inserts ect.

If your not drilling the ball yourself or have a good connection at the proshop you can end up paying the same or more as buying local. Also depends on taxes and where you buy from online.

Like BB.com has $10 off of $100 when using google checkout with free shipping. Or you can catch a good deal on ebay when individuals or shops need to unload equipment.

Shop around, just like anything else. Don't be afraid to negotiate with the local shops either. They have product to move to make way for newer stuff all of the time.

Be good, or be good at it.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

For me the big difference it I save on the tax when I buy a high end ball online. My proshop ususally gives me a free resurface and rejuvenate when I buy a ball from them so I tent to buy a couple new balls a year from them and a couple online, it really depends more on the deal I can get online. Sometimes people nearly give new balls away ;)

I have found that only highend equipment is worth buying online.  There just isn't enough difference to not give the business to your proshop on midrange or entry level balls.  Now on highend equipment that is normally running 190 to 210 plus tax drilled at the proshop I frequent I can save anywhere between 40 and 60 dollars after paying for drilling buying online.  The trick is how to save yourself some money and not alienate your proshop while doing so.

right,,,,, and I dont use Grips, just regular drilled finger tips.......  so i save $ there, but spend $ on the 2n1 switch grip sleeve......

and even, with Highend balls,,,, unless I would get a REALLY good deal, it will still cost me $$ cuz he has drilling costs based on if the ball is low, med or high performance.....
