C.A.T.S. Lane at National Bowling Stadium
« on: December 10, 2009, 01:48:17 AM »
Im heading to Reno in June for my first National''''s experience and im looking forward to getting on the C.A.T.S. lane to see how much my game has changed. It''''s been about 5 years since ive done it. Has anyone here been analyzed on CATS in Reno? Also, who oversees it?
Like i said im excited about the whole trip, are there mini tournaments that run while your out there besides the USBC tournament? Just wondering how the overall experience is and what to expect and look for.
And one last question, the shot they put out for the National tournament as far as difficulty, is it on par with say an easy house shot, or Kegel patterns, or PBA shots normally?

Mike Jasnau is the person in charge.  The shot is very similar, if not the same, as the pattern being used in the tournament.

i fixed the original post, the pattern question was in reference to the basic pattern they use during the National USBC tournament, sorry for the confusion!

The Nationals Pattern is different than any pattern you will see.  It is a sport compliant pattern.  They will post the pattern about 24 hours before the event starts.

Wow, i didnt know it was sport compliant. Sounds like fun, i heard from a friend to go into it with a plan on breaking the pattern down together.

That works if during the team event if both teams use this strategy.  Dont count on it for the single/doubles.  That will depend on what the teams ahead of you were doing unless you have the 7:00 am squad.  Keep an open mind and once the event starts you will get a lot of info on here about the shot, what others use, where they played the lanes and stuff.  Mostly, have fun with the event.  The first time is always fun and frustrating.  Spare shooting is the key to cashing.

CATS is no longer there.  Mike however uses some Storm software that duplicates many of the functions.

StopNcrank,
What the Phoneman said is right on the mark.  Your team members are very important to your scoring. if you have one coming from the outside. one or two trying to cover 40 boards, your team is will probably struggle. At least last year in Las Vegas that 40' targeting board at the 10 board was the place to be when the ball headed towards the pocket.. spares will make or break you.
Mike Jasnau will set up "Lane 81" as close as he can to the pattern that you will bowl on. if you make an appointment for your team, he will explain what you need to do.  Again...go there and have fun..

I am sure that others will correct me, but CATS measures everything from when the ball leaves your hand.  The Storm software, like Ebonite's MAP software, analyzes what you did with some of what the ball did.

I was wondering about the team practice session for Reno. Lane 81 is just that a single lane. It is not possible to have 10 guys practice breaking down the pattern if we are all trying to bowl on 1 lane. Will Mike be using one of the casino houses as a home base for his team coaching instead? And if so, what does that mean for Lane 81 and an individual lesson like stop is looking for? Just some questions I was thinking about. Was going to ask them closer to the start of Nationals, but since I saw this thread thought I would throw them out. Thanks.

My guess is Mike will be using one of the other houses in the area as he did in New Mexico.  As far as lane 81 someone else said here that it is gone.  Guess we will find out as the event gets closer.
