One Shot Survey
« on: February 08, 2005, 09:38:35 AM »
I have read a few topics over the last year about people bowling whole seasons with plastic balls and the like in order to test their skill and accuracy. I have an interesting thought-

I am thinking of bowling purely over first arrow (on the right . . . .am right handed), and playing straight up first arrow for the rest of the season. I honestly believe that based on the patterns I have come across in most tournaments and leagues, I believe with the correct equipment, I would never have to move at all. I think with four balls and a spare ball, irrelevant of oil you would not have to move (although I would accept that on an unbeliveable flood, first arrow pointing at the pocket may suffice!)

To be honest, in my heart of hearts, I want to be proved wrong, but I have a feeling that you can now manufacture a scoring shot on any condition by playing the outside, as it is the driest part of the lane, based purely on ball speed and rotation and equipment.

So, question is, assuming I have medium + revs, and medium ball speed as standard, and a "normal" roll on my ball, what equipment would I need, and how would I have it drilled?

My guess (with only a modicum of thought) would be the following:

Plastic Ball
Killer Instinct Sanded (drilled for early roll) - Heavy Oil
Killer Instinct Pearl (Drilled as above) - Medium/Heavy
Eraser Blaze (drilled pin up) - Medium Dry
Power Groove (drilled pin up) - Dry

Any ideas people?

Well, it really depends on where you bowl...
at my center, anything outside the first arrow, unless you're a cranker, and getting 30+ revolutions, it's out of bounds.  The only way to play that far out going straight down the arrows is to go medium speed, with a VERY early hooking ball.

Lately, because either the house condition has changed and/or because i'm not as strong as I was last year, the bellying it through the boards swing shot isn't working.  therefore, I play straight down 8-10, laying it down probably on 12, and swinging anywhere from 2-7 boards as far out as 5.  I've been using a lot more stroker style lately, as it's hard to crank down and in (for me).

just a thought...
