Received a text message today that Gold County lanes in Sutter Creek is now open.

Shasta lanes in redding has been open for quite some time.  I bowl there all the time.

That's interesting. That's Amador County, which got out of the stay-at-home order on the 12th, but is still in purple, so they technically shouldn't be open (I'm just going off the covid19 site, not arguing politics).

However, last I looked at site, only two counties out of the 58 were in red (Alpine, Mariposa), and one in orange (Sierra), which both have nothing as far as an alley goes...

.. However, I see that Trinity County is in red, and Trinity Lanes is open in Weaverville (though they shouldn't be open until orange).. So this might be the beginning.

I was out mountain bike riding in our local mountains yesterday, and ran into a few groups of 15+ maskless people doing their thing. Aside from that, the trails were littered with people openly defying stay at home orders. People are over listening to whatever Newsom or Garcetti (LA Mayor) have to say.


Any credibility that may have existed is completely gone.

In his defense, most to all counties had their stay-at-home orders lifted on 1/12/21. Again, not arguing politics, but simply going off of the covid19 site.

I'm not aware that LA County has lifted anything. Officials continue to bark at residents to stay at home as much as possible. If anything, they're talking about more business closures and possibly requesting that masks be worn inside homes. Of course, few of their pronouncements are enforceable, and folks have pretty much tuned them out.


The point is that bowling in SoCal will most likely be dead for several more months. I have no insights into what might be happening on the rural fringes.

Can't really blame them.  Our center here in PA did the same thing recently and defied another shut down order from the Governor over the holidays.

This kind of defiance is usually temporary and doesn't end well, at least in SoCal. Fines start coming quickly, and if that doesn't work, they'll pull liquor licenses. Overpriced drinks are the lifeblood of many centers, so few owners will take things that far.


Again, don't look for wide spread openings until infection rates go drastically down. That probably won't happen until vaccines start taking effect, which obviously is a while off.   

Enforcement here in PA varies by County.  Some counties are very "hands-off" and turn a blind eye to businesses defying the Governors orders.  Other counties enforce it strictly with fines and forced closures.  Some counties will even revoke business licenses.

Our center was threatened by the health department.  They were going to call police and the liquor control board.  That never happened.

Businesses have been restricted for close to a year now, so they have no choice but to try to reopen to save themselves.

While the vaccine brings hope, the roll-out has been a mess.  Most states don't have enough of it to get through the first phase of vaccines let alone get it out to everyone else.  Now they are saying it provides protection for about a year, just like the regular flu shot.  So it will become another annual vaccination that people will be encouraged to get.  Other experts are saying masks and social distancing will be here "forever", so we just need to adapt and learn to live smartly and sensibly alongside the virus.
