Received a text message today that Gold County lanes in Sutter Creek is now open.

Perhaps this is the beginning...

I know of one bowling alley in California that never closed through any of the covid stuff.

Canyon Lanes at Morongo never closed because it's on Indian Reservation land. I just bowled a tournament there last weekend.

Otherwise, there have been a lot of underground events going on throughout the state, but I'm not aware of a single house that thumbed their nose at health officials and officially stayed open.

Interesting. I know Gold Country Lanes in Oroville closed even though they are on a reservation. The alley I'm talking about is Nu Generation lanes in Yuba city. Not sure how they did it, other than kind of being an out of the way city where not many people pay attention to it. I know a lot of Northern CA alleys were open in secret and not answering phones or advertising it, but Nu Gen was open, answering phones, and told me they were just staying open until someone actually came in there and shut them down. I guess it didn't happen. I think they did have adjusted hours though. I'm not sure if they still had leagues going on or not.

We just got an email from our youth bowling director, saying that Fireside may have a chance of opening back up this coming April, pending on how things go in the next couple of weeks. The state (I'm working with CDPH at the moment) is revamping their counties' tiers now, so this may all be changing shortly.

Regardless, my daughter's birthday is coming up, so we're taking her up the hill to Reno for the weekend. We'll definitely get in some games up there.

I am waiting for Fireside to open as well, as I bowl in the Cook League. I have been calling the state and the county to get them to re-evaluate their stance on bowling centers. Right now they are being classified as family entertainment centers and that needs to change. I tried to explain to the officials that sport and competitive bowling is not a family of 4 renting equipment other people have used, video games, and laser tag. It is for people with their own equipment to exercise, hone their skill by practice, and compete in a controlled environment. They agree that my argument that shooting and archery ranges are open where people are assigned to an "alley" and use there own equipment is very similar to what bowling for sport is, but it seems they don't have any idea of who can take it to the next level

Good news for you. I can confirm that Fireside Lanes IS open. I just walked in the place just to check hours for tomorrow. Almost every lane is filled, and yes, they will be open Sunday morning, with their normal Sunday morning rates (you know what that means!

)

The kids and I will most definitely be up there tomorrow, especially since I have a lot of work to do on my gear (finding PAP, prepping to lay out 3 new balls), and making sure the kids and I get some long overdue practice in!

Yes I heard they were open. Cook League folded and they are starting a shorter 17 week draft league on April 7th.

Fireside is open Friday,Saturday and Sunday. Leagues starting first week of April.

Confirmed, depending on how the next two weeks go. If vaccination rates and infection rates stay the same or go down according to CDPH, we'll move into the Orange tier by then, which means leagues can start up again.

Also, I just came from bowling there. Cook's draft league is done for the year, not folded completely. They'll be starting up again in the fall, outside of the smaller league they'll be doing starting in April and throughout the summer.

I'm still trying to figure out how they are open, along with Strikes Rocklin, as both counties are still in the red tier, while Mardi Gras/Bowlero/whatever they are called now is still closed. To me, that sounds like someone is distinguishing between a bowling alley and a family entertainment center, and that would explain why Bowlero, Land Park, and Rocklin are closed.

Local centers here in So Cal were informed they could operate as a "Fitness and Training business" in the Red tier with specified time slots (1.5 hours) and very limited capacity. 4 people max per lane and using every other lane
