Calling all ball suggestors!
« on: December 21, 2003, 07:29:22 PM »
Hey everyone,

My brother-in-law is looking for a new ball and I'm hoping that you all will lend your expertise in helping me suggest one for him. He is right handed and he throws with very high speed and low to medium revs. His track is inconsistent, but I think it ventures into the 45 range more often than anything else. He has been using an AMF NightHawk Torque, but now he's looking for something that will give him more arc across the lane now that he's at a house with more oil. He is looking for something strong that just arcs the lane, no snap.  This factor, along with his high speed and lower revs, is making me think that I should set him up with one of my favorite balls of all time, the Granite Gargoyle. With his speed and line of choice I think that he will be able to get the Gargoyle to arc right off the corner. But I'm interested to here what others have to say. Here is a primary list of balls that I have considered for him off the bat. Feel free to comment on any of them and to make suggestions of others:

Visionary-Granite Gargoyle
Visionary-Burgundy Gryphon
Hammer-Big Blue
Hammer-Blade Particle
Hammer-Diesel Particle
Hammer-Sharp Blade
Hammer-Vicious Attack
Hammer-Power Diesel
Storm-Fear Factor
Storm-Deuce
Brunswick-Raging Inferno
Brunswick-Swamp Monster
Ebonite-V2 Strong
Ebonite-V2 Particle
Track-Phenom
Track-Super Freak
Track-Freak

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

Monster Smash/r with the factory 800 surface would be a better choice for him than either of the other Big-B balls.

With higher speed and lower revs, I'd say that the Swamp Monster is a great choice, especially for someone looking for arc and not snap. The Swamp sets up earlier than any other Brunswick balls (according to their info), and I can't say enough good things about the core used in the Monster line. In my view the Smash/R might be sanded out of box, but is still just a reactive ball.

Burgundy Gryphon is also a great ball, but just don't make the mistake I did in setting it up to roll TOO early. It's so strong out of the box that anything drilled with the CG very far out will just cause it to burn up in the heads.

Goodluck!

predator pursuit would be a good choice, as would the TPC Player.  The Player gives you a lot of play and room for error.  Loved the pursuit!!!

Another ball that would work splendid for him would be the Fuel.  Great early rolling, arcing, continued-backend reaction ball.

Heads' Reaction (~first 20 feet): since you mentioned "more oil", and given a fast ball speed with low-med revs, you may want to start with a strong cover stock - some kind of particle.  If the ball rolls out, you can always polish it until it doesn't.

Midlane Reaction (~mid 20 feet): Jeffreys hit it on the head as far as the core goes - look for a ball with a low radius of gyration (RG) in the 2.5 area.

Backend Reaction: (last 20 feet): Axis leverage or at most, leverage-axis - get your pro shop's help with this.  Basically, you'll want the pin close to if not on the positive axis point (PAP).  If he's closer to a medium rev player, off axis, if he's close to a low rev player, on axis.

Try a Lane #1 Super Carbide Bomb or a Golden Nugget. Lane 1 stuff arcs nicely, not your skid/snap reaction. These are both particle balls that will work on heavier oil, which will be good for your friends higher speed. =:^D
