Bowling with carpal tunnel
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:49:20 PM »
Has anyone here or have you bowled with carpal tunnel? I am experiencing some pain in my right hand. My span has been shortened abit. What else have any of you done to combat it?

I dealt with it by getting rid of my cupped wrist delivery and wearing a brace on my right hand/wrist while sleeping, eventually the symptoms subsided.

I had this problem years back and the cause was in the length of the ring finger and the pitch of the thumb.  I went to my chiropractor and he explained to me how the lower arm works.  He also explained what not to do with the arm.  It was more like leave it alone.  I have not had the problem since.

Im kinda going through the same thing as well, so im taking the summer off the let things heal up. Its been several weeks since, but for a while my right hand would go numb at night. I never had any pain, but just yesterday I tried just putting my hand in the ball and imediately felt a pull on my ring finger. So I think at the least im gonna have to make yet another grip change, possibly the Sarge Easter grip to eliminate that strain on my ring finger all together.

Smash, if you dont mind what wrist brace did you try? Also, what symptoms have you guys experienced?

I had corrective surgery to remedy severe carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist/hand three years ago.  In my experience, I didn't have as much pain as I had EXTREME numbness throughout the entire hand.  It would constantly fall asleep and felt as if my fingers had thousands of small needles or pin pricks on the ends of each digit.  Had the surgery to correct it and it's about 90-95% back to strength and almost all of the numbness is gone.  If you're experiencing pain, IMHO, it's something other than CTS.  Just like you should check with your pro shop operator concerning questions about your game, it's probably best to have the hand looked at by your primary care physician if your pain persists much longer or gets any worse.
