Camcorder
« on: December 22, 2010, 09:08:57 AM »
My GF is buying me a camcorder for a x-mas gift, so I can record myself bowling, in order to improve my game and to send them out for coaching responses. Which would you guys who have posted vids recommend?

Previously, I used the Kodak Zi6 pocket videocamera and it was decent, but I would like some that shows my entire body in the stance (with this one my head was cut off), be able to see my release clearly (especially since some of the place I bowl are not brightly lit) and have good playback quality (HD) and last but not least, not be too expensive.

There''s a thread with some good suggestions on bowlingchat.net.  I think it''s in one of the coaching forums, or you can use the search function.  --  JohnP

Edit:  I found the thread, link is below.

You'll want one with a high frame rate if possible.  Motion blur makes analyzing video a real pain in the arse sometimes.

JVC makes a good minicam with a hard drive.  Do yourself a favor a get one with digital memory like flash or hdd so you can move it to a PC without having to capture from miniDV tapes or something.

I have a Sony DCR-HC52 and like it a lot.  Make sure that it is compatible with the software you will be using i.e. Bowler's Map, Dartfish etc... if you plan to use it.  The microsoft software that came with my system works fairly well for the basics.  The Sony camera is great!  Just plug it into the pc and that is just about it.  The computer finds the camera and goes from there.  It treats it like any other drive or device.

When I look at posts, to the left, a sponsor ad keeps flashing. Guess what, its for the Flip Ultra HD. Any thoughts on that camera?

Anybody (who is currently or have taken videos) can give me a suggestion? We are going tomorrow to check some after-xmas sales.

I have the Flip Ultra HD. Love the camera for the simplicity and easy editing. BUT...there are limitations for any "fancy" editing(slow-mo or freeze frames..can't be done with the built-in Flip software). Again, I love the camera(it was a steal too price wise).
