Most agressive pearl ball?
« on: June 09, 2004, 12:21:27 AM »
I am looking at buying another ball with a pearl coverstock, I was just wondering what ball out now or coming soon that has the most hook potential? If you have thrown any of these balls your comments are welcomed. Thanks

I haven't seen the Ebonite "Killer Instinct" Pearl in action, but in looking at it's numbers, it looks aggressive. It has a 16.9 length rating on a scale of 1-30.....A total hook rating of 24.9 rating on a scale of 1-30.....and get this, it has a 9.6 break point angle rating on a scale of 1-10.

Storm's Triple X Factor is probably one of the most aggressive resin pearls out there now. The Wired is also very strong.

However, if you're looking for any pearl, particles pearls are, in general, stronger, than resin pearls, in oil handling ability and in over all hooking ability. There are many particle pearls that will fit your bill, among them, the Depth Charge, Golden Nugget, and the Vendetta Particle Pearl.

ALso there are a numbe rof solid resin/pearl resin combination coverstocks out there that seem to have th ebest of both worlds and most of them are polished or can be polished. Some of them are Apocalypse, Element AU79, Turbo Diesel (comes dull, easily polished). These have length with polish and very strong backend.

my friend has a storm xxx and doesnt like it at all, its loaded for max hook and just doesnt. his bruiser out hooks the xxx. he wanted a ball he could move in the oil with and open up the lane with thinking this was the ball and it isnt, for him anyway.

thats what my friend thought too, i threw my original x factor and his triple x and my x factor hooked earlier and more than the xxx with the same drill, but it may work better for others.

The Uranium is a great pearl ball, nice strong arc in the back and crushes the pins. One league I bowl the lanes are oily but have a good back end and the two times I've bowled on them I shot 764, 727.

I find my Diesel RP is pretty strong even though it is drilled fairly weak (5x5)  but I've heard other people complain that they can't get it to hook at all.

Strikealot. I recently got a Triple XXX and I am a bit surprised, I
thought I would have trouble keeping it on the lane but it doesn't seem
to hook near what most of my other balls do, with basically the same layout.

Harry & Strikealot,

This topic about the XXX-Factor has been held a short time ago.  I believe the general consensus
is that the cover on the XXX-F is a lot stronger, a lot grippier than the Accutread cover on the original
X-Factor and the Deuce. Therefore to perform as designed, even though it's a pearl, it needs a lot
more oil, relatively speaking than the X-F. Then it will go long enough and hook in the back end more than
you've both seen so far.

Balls that burn up early can easily be confused with balls that go too long and never seem to grab the lane.
A friend (very good bowler) bought an XXX-F for heavier oil with carrydown and is delighted with it. You
could try a little more polishor just look for a house that puts more oil out to test this theory for yourself.

Good luck.

I would agree, but I also hear that The Deal from Hammer is going to be much more angular than the BBP.

I will review it, when I get it punched this summer.

If you want a hard and angular backend that leaves very few 10 Pins, then drill an Uranium label drill. May not work for others, but it worked for me.
