Can release cover up timing flaws?
« on: December 11, 2008, 10:06:45 PM »
I was having a little trouble with the look I was getting so instead of using the "throwing a football underhanded" release I've been working on I went to a more up the back release I used to use alot. It felt like I was trying to throw the ball towards the ceiling instead of laying it down on the lane. Can changing releases change the timing. Also, does anybody concentrate on feeling like the ball is passing the slide foot at a certain point in the delivery?

So many questions, so little time but I''m having fun.

Can release cover up timing flaws?

Timing flaws will usually create release inconsistency because timing flaws often change your swing plain and because timing flaws almost always cause you to be off-balance at the line.

Can focusing on a different release help with timing? Certainly. Maybe bowlers have the "I need to put something on the ball" feeling which causes them to muscle the ball through the swing which messes up timing which messes up balance at the line and so on down the line.  Focusing on not "putting it on the ball" and working with a "weaker" release, these problems often go away or are at least diminished resulting in better overall performance.
