different PBA Patterns are Nasty
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:43:12 PM »
these new Patterns are mean and Nasty. On Cheetah now, Chameleon left me in shambles and Cheetah is about to give me a Fatality Finisher like in "Mortal Kombat." This is not my first year of PBAX I have bowled on them in various houses and leagues the last 4 years. And before that on a Sport League for a few years. This year though is one of the more challenging since I started. Being more of a power guy the inside is my wheeel house Long patterns are my friend. But being forced to the right and playing out is and always has been a challenge.

I used to be decent on Chameleon, starting shallow and working deeper with strong ball and weak release, With drier and longer Chamleon I was forced right and struggled, I have always been best inside outside so so.

Cheetah I have always had my issues with, hit or miss at best, sometimes I light them up like a slot machine, other times I am DOA. Last two weeks DOA. With the extra Volume in the down lane farther (more at 22 feet) than Viper and Chameleon I cant get way in and use the dry middle with a weak ball drilled strong, I find myself and again right trying to get better at playing up the outside.

I am not saying I dislike the challenge, the reason I am their is to learn and become better, and In the end I will be better for taking the challenge but for right now I am kinda bummin about my last 4 weeks of bowling.

thx Needed to get this off my chest.

FYI There is a local bowler named Jason Sebastion who is averaging 234 on these "pro" patterns using a plastic pancake weight block ball.

They can play so different from house to house.  Last year I loved Chameleon and hated Cheetah.  This year I'm averaging 40 pins higher on Cheetah and tearing my hair out on Chameleon.  Outsides are too slick to feather it up the ditch, and the middles are blown up by the end of practice.

The topography of the lanes themselves have as much influence on "the shot" as the oil pattern itself. This fact is greatly misunderstood by too many bowlers.

I agree, I bowled in 2 pba experience leagues last year.  At one house, the surface was much tighter and I only averaged like 204 or so for the league.  At the other, the track was much more profound and I averaged into the 220's.  I didn't throw it better or worse in each league, just one house is easier than the other for my style.

Leagues that were already started before a certain date (middle of September?) are allowed to finish the year using PBA patterns.  New leagues will either have to use Kegel or generic sport patterns.

I guess I missed this.  Why are the PBA patterns no longer available for the leagues?
