Couple of questions
« on: February 29, 2004, 10:27:03 PM »
To all the helpful folks on this board,
I have a few questions I've been mulling over for a while.

1 - What does a down PAP coordinate mean?  My pap is about 4.5 over and about .5 down.  I don't know the exact coordinates because I use rather large tape for marking it.  I do know it is below the midline however.

2 - What does a low track (far from fingers) mean?  Mine is about 1.5-2" away from the fingers.  Lots of rings.

3 - How do you create a break point more down the lane?  It seems for me that whenever I try to shoot it out farther down the lane, I get the same result.  When it hits the dry, it turns.  So even if I shoot for a deeper break point, it will still break at a really similar spot.   This is for lanes with dry backends mostly, since that is the condition I play on.

Thanks to all,

CCB

Thanks Bob, nice concise response.

About the inverted track.  I looked that up on google for just some mentionings of the term.  What I came up with was kind of interesting.  From what I can piece together, this is what an inverted track means.  Btw, this is how I bowl, but I'm basing it on what others say.  I just know that I do it, but not necessarily the mechanics of it.

1 - Generally higher revs. (true in my case, I happen to be hooking everything off the lane now.  It's actually kind of a problem.  And I have lousy ball speed.)

2 - Fingers stay in the ball longer. (also true, I have been working on this indirectly.)

3 - Track is closer to the fingers than thumb.  (true because that is the definition, but also answers my question about a down PAP.  If it is closer to the fingers than thumb, then a perpendicularly drawn line will lead to below the midline, not above.)

Am I missing anything, or is anything in here incorrect?  I guess it is a topic not explicitly covered on too many websites.  Just that one that has the videos of cranker, stroker, and spinner release.  I think everyone has been to that site at least once.  Thanks for reading.
