What is bowling?
« on: June 06, 2010, 04:51:54 PM »
Yesterday I learned something I didn't know from a friend of mines that has been bowling for over 20+ years and is 15+ years older.  I learned bowling was entertainment...  Left me speechless..

I thought bowling was a sport or even gambling but never entertainment.

What do you think bowling is?

Background on my house - You never know what you might get and we never have a normal clean backend shot.  Is there ever such thing as no shot also?

Sport (n):
1.a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime recreation.

Sounds like bowling fits that definition from The American Heritage Dictionary.

As far as entertainment:
1. the act or art of entertaining or state of being entertained
2. an act, production, etc., that entertains diversion amusement

It fits there as well but so do most sports...
