Can you Find PAP W/Out an Armadillo Tool?
« on: February 02, 2005, 09:47:01 AM »
Hi Everyone!

Been wanting to know my PAP for the longest time, my pro shop is quite a distance away and I won't be able to go this week. I've seen this step by step on Buddie's Pro Shop's FAQ link, but I don't have the Armadillo Toll that you place over the ball.

I want to try this without trying the tape on the side of the ball experiment this time. I can clearly see the track on my plastic spare ball, so this should be a great ball to experiment on since it doesn't flare and shows a true track.

Can anyone here explain how to find my PAP step-by-step if I don't have the Plastic Armadillo Tool? This would be a great help!

Good luck & Good bowling!

1)throw your plastic ball down the middle of the lane to get good oil on it
2)set the ball in a holder/ash tray with the track horizontal, so that its lined up paralel with the table.
3)put a piece of tape on the VERY top of the ball
4)throw the ball, see if the tape stays in one spot
5)adjust if it spun around alot till you get it to not move
6)measure from the very center of the grip out, then up (not diaganol though, straight out, then straight up)

Thats your PAP. Mine for instance is 5 1/4 over, and 1/4 up.

If you place the ball in a cup with the track closet to the table and parallel to the tabletop, the top center is your PAP.

You could mark that spot with tape and then throw the ball to test it out but it should be close.

To measure it you will have to find your center of grip and then make a line perpendicular thru the grip centerline and through the center of the grip towards your PAP. The make another perpendicular line from here to the PAP point.

The measurement is from the center of grip to the line going up/down to the PAP. This is your over measurement. Then measure the distance from the intersecting point to the PAP.

All this is easier if you have a half scale.

Easy way: once you have established an oil ring draw a line from one side of the ring to the other (make sure the ends of the line are 180 degrees apart).  Turn ball 90 degrees and repeat.  Where the two lines intersect is your PAP.
