Why don't you change the one thing you want to?
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:30:34 PM »
Says it all really, someone asked the question in the thread about "What would you change about your game if you could change 1 thing?"

Please state the one thing you would like to change, and then the reason why you don't.

I'll start:

I'd like to have a stronger mental approach.

I am working on this all the time, however I sometimes have problems finding time during the day to actually do the necessary work.

Consistency.. I'm not changing anything in my game right now because I feel like I've been bowling good lately, so the consistency problem hasn't been with me lately.

wish I could lower ball speed. I have tried on numerous occasions I just can't be consistent enough I end up pulling alot of shots. to young and strong, so I have to wait till I get old then the ball will slow down

Same as Andrew, the mental game. I seem to have two mindsets. If I'm in one, I'll do great, unfortunately if I'm in the other mindset I do terribly. I get very tense and talk myself out of doing well and overthink things rather than just trusting myself.

Silly.

I've been working on changing my balance at my release, and a better knee bend.  Both are going well at the moment, and hoepfully I can say, "I changed it" by the end of league.

I think my footwork would be the one thing I'd try to work out.  When I was young, I went through this phase where I kept hitting that little ankle bone that sticks out with the ball, so subconsciously I started twisting my foot - toe in to move the ankle out so I wouldn't hit it any more.  I think I'd see some consistency improvement if I kept that foot straight and didn't twist my leg up at the line.

However, I feel this change would cost me a lot of $$$ and time to correct.  Since I'm not bowling as much these days, there's not a whole lot of motivation for me to get serious about working it out.

Putting my thumb back in the ball more often.  I have a hard time talking myself into it because I tend to be way too one dimensional but know that in the near future, I need to do it.

I want to change my timing.  I actually stopped by my houses pro shop and scheduled an appointment with a coach.  Hopefully, with some hard work, I can become a more consistant bowler and see some higher scores.

i started the other thread...as i stated i would like to post shot longer...i do practice and have countless hours for a long time...i dont fall off during shot, its usually after ball is let go....but its like a dominoe effect, if i try to correct timing or change footwork, something else occurs..so i have learned to live with this as i still am very competitive...i to would like the ablility to focus more sometimes..my mind is alway in motion thinking about everything....just some thoughts...

Learn when, and what adjustments need to be made from anything from mechinal problems or lane adjustments.

Increasing my knee bend would require a minor miracle of modern medicine first to repair old damage.

Because house shots dont allow me to go straight up the lane efficiently. Overwalls force me into the oil where the ball wont read the lane appropiately. Have to play the bounce on house shots, not to let my teammates down.

//I'd like to have a stronger mental approach.//

^that probably is mine, too, though for the last 2 sessions i've had a terrific mental game. it's probably temporary, but hopefully i can get it back the way i got it in the first place, which was reading about quiet eye targeting-
http://bowlingknowledge.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=189&Itemid=1

my dad had actually told me about watching a tv program about this study a few years ago, but i hadn't thought about it for bowling. but yeah the improvement to my mental gain is probably just that i was thinking about implementing what i learned, and when i get more used to doing it that benefit will go away some, but hopefully the vast improvement in accuracy stays... i also did some work on my armswing and release to help that.

but i feel like my mental game will still be much better than before, because now i get up to the approach, lock on the target, and like seperate myself from my eyes, think about my keys and go. idk if this helps but thought i'd offer it. it's very similar to something i heard randy say in a clip from a teaching vid he did on youtube yesterday about how he targets, and then goes and doesn't think.

sorry about the bulk and disorginization. My 2 are accuracy and mental game, and i feel like they're very tied together. when i mess up an important shot, it's almost always accuracy from where i walked or my arm getting involved and causing the miss.

posted the link for people who said accuracy or mental game.
