Cant carry/ how do you guys deal with it
« on: November 02, 2016, 06:58:45 PM »
For 2 months, in my Thursday league,  for the life of me I just can't seem to carry no matter what adjustments I make    (moving up on the approach, slowing it down,  tightening up my lines, more axis rotation /tilt)  Nothing is working  :-\

My question is to you guys is, how do you guys go about it, and does it ever get to a point where you wanna take a break or something?

Yell. Kick things. Curse. Blame the staff. Drive home pissed.
In other words, be like a teenager and throw a fit? I think not, especially behind the wheel of a ton and a half of seriously heavy steel, driving down the road. I know, I know... It's all in good fun, but.... REALLY?  ::)

Sarcasm..........
I understand that, really.

Usually the way the ball exits the pin deck is going to give me an indication of what's happening on the lane and let me know if an adjustment is needed or if a ball change is warranted.  When you're getting into the flat 10 when moving laterally left, and the early check when moving laterally right (even with speed) the ball exiting the pin deck will confirm this.

At that point it's time for a different ball motion.

Biggest thing I do is watch the ball go thru the pin deck. If I start hanging corners, I watch where the ball leaves the deck. I evaluate if I threw, what I felt was, a good shot. If so, did the ball continue towards the 9 pin or deflect towards the 8 pin? If I like my look with the current ball and feel I can keep scoring with it, I will make a release change and/or move my feet. If that doesn't work it's time to change balls. Sometimes you can make all the right moves and still struggle on a pair. Make your spares and grind it out.

I typically bring a few balls that have previously worked. But I ensure they are all different hook shapes..

Using storm all polished balls have the same finish....so it's easy for me to just ball up or ball down based on core/cover AND hook shape.  For example if I need straighter angles (up the boards) I might bust out my !Q fusion.  If I need to move left and bounce it off the dry, maybe the hyroad comes out.  Fusion hooks too early then my uproar comes out, or hyroad is too much.
.I go down to a scream.

I typically on THS have no problem hitting the hole. It's just a matter of carry.  So I adjust off of multiple ten pin leaves.  Never stress about 1 or 2..

The prime characteristic of house shots is that the heads burn forcing you to move in ( true from either side ) then you have to go around the heavy oil in the center.  This causes late entry and makes the ball almost certain to burn early for us lower rev guys.  Guys with speed can stay out longer and play straighter.  Guys with revs can move in and not lose carry.  It is the reason I often bowl better on flatter patterns when I can get to the pocket.
