I am scheduled to have the procedure after the league roll-offs.
Been through all the anti inflammatory, cortisone shots, braces,
etc. It will be the left hand first followed by the right 4
weeks later. Has anyone had the procedure? What were your results,
positive or negative? Did the results help your game?

I have had both of my wrists done.
Before I could barely hold a bowling
ball with a pro release on. After I had surgury
I took 1 year and used the release until my wrist strengthened.
I now use no brace and have hardly no pain at all.
The same day I had my right wrist operated on I caught
2 trout over 4 pounds. I looked funny as h e l l reeling with a hand that did
not bend, I also have less problem with that hand now than
my other one which I did NOTHING with for 1 month. I did throw a
few balls lefthanded about 6 weeks after to see if it worked and had no
problems. Wait til you feel them
snip the tunnel in there, INSTANT RELIEF!! (I was NOT asleep when mine was
done)

Sawbones is correct in I hope that it is the right thing to do.
I often times see patients with what they call carpal tunnel syndrome. Most of these cases are caused by a flattening of the carpal tunnel and an enlargement of the tendinous sheath (flexor retinaculum). The surgery that you speak of actually severes the sheath to allow room for the structures that have to pass through the tunnel i.e. nerves, vascular system and flexor tendons of the wrist and fingers.
Be careful after the surgery and don't do anything to flair up your wrist like bowling too quickly.
My personal feeling is that if the carpal bones in the wrist can be manipulated to restore the tunnel and then taped to heal in place often times a surgery can be avoided. That is my experience. I have saved many people from having to go through the surgery and have also helped those that still have remaining symptoms after the surgery. Then again there were a small handful that I was unable to help.
My personal feeling is that surgery should be the last option. Once you have been cut you can't reverse it. If it is perfectly okay to exhaust all conservative means first without doing any additional harm then by all means exhaust them.

I had it done about 3 years ago and have had zero problems since. I also know a lady that had it done about 4 years ago and she has had nothing but problems since the surgery. I guess it just depends on the doctor you go to. Try to talk to some of his/her patients if you can.. Not sure how you would do that..
It took me quite awhile before I could bowl again, but I would do it all over again if I had the chance. The pain was so bad at night I couldn't sleep..

What are the symptoms? My right hand fingers have been tingling for about 2 weeks. It comes and goes. Is not painful but feels like my hand keeps falling alseep.

Thanks for the feedback. I started treatment in 9/03. Been to 3 separate doctors. Have had all the mentioned treatments along with electrical
nerve and muscle testing. Symptoms would include numbness, tingling, pain,
cramping, loss of feeling.

thats how is starts and the pain just gets worse and worse until you can't stand it anymore..
Before I had my surgery done, They tried everything and the pain and numbness would not go away so I had the surgery..
I also had a test where they stick needles in your muscles (very painful) around your wrist and arm and this is what tells them if you need the surgery or not..
