PBA to Open Membership to Women
« on: March 28, 2004, 11:46:31 PM »
Uh oh... time to see how many women shoe up!

Sheck it out!

Of course, I doubt more than a dozen women will join.  But we shall see!

Wow, not one reply.

Yeah, I guess this is the most boring topic o' the day.

Could prove interesting...I know that spots were still available in both Oklahoma City and San Antonio, not sure about regionals in other parts of the country.  I'm wondering if Jim will have any WD's from the inaugural LCT event in Port Arthur by members looking to head up to OKC (PA is a doubles event and was already impacted by something with the college bowlers that same weekend).

The timing pretty much ensures, though, that there will only be a few women (if any) at the Tour Trials since the five regional event requirement exists...

I've been thinking about this the majority of the afternoon...
Here's my PERSONAL decision...

I'm not going to join the PBA - at least not at this time. And there's only one reason why - the "nearby tournament rule".
If there's a pba regional on a weekend so many hours away (don't remember exactly, but a lot), and another tournament (say a woman's LCT tournament), I'd be prohibited to bowl the other tournament without permission of the tournament director - and the director (at least in this region) doesn't give permission. If I went and bowled the women's tournament instead of the regional, I'd be fined, and forfeit any moneys won.
Not worth it. At least not at this time.

Mumzie,

Judging by the rules listed above, it looks like the "average" bowler is only obligated to a 50 mile radius to regionals.

And due to it being an exempt tour, I'm not sure how many women will make it into the national tour this year.

Maybe they planned to do this all along? Could that have been another possible reason for the exempt tour?

i think this would be a great thing to watch. MTFD24 might second me on this but i watch a mixed traveling league locally here and not unusual to see the women out bowl the men namely liz johnson and a few others.
