My accuracy is pretty good ( Apprx a 95%+ spare conversion rate ) however I'm not really a power player and sometimes I struggle to string strikes together usually due to having carry problems.

My centre have just put some new wood pins in, in order to bed them in for a Big UK tourney ( They sound awful ) and last night I left at least ten 10 pins from "Flush hits".

What I would like to know is a) What is the probable/possible reason I am leaving so many 10 pins and b) What can I do to improve my carry/stop leaving so many tenpins.

Any help would be appreciated as the lack of strings of strikes is stoping me from making the jump from a 200+ ave bowler to a 220+ ave bowler and also its not what I need with two weeks to go before the tourney which may contain Tore Torgerson and Tim mack.........

What kind of ten pins are you leaving?

Are they ringing tens with the 6 flying around the ten?

A lot of the ringing tens come from the ball breaking into the pocket late. The ball almost hits the headpin from behind.

You can go to a ball with more arc and less snap. You can tighten up your line a little. You can slow your speed down to get an earlier breakpoint or throw harder and go more direct.

Or are they flat tens where the 6 is lazy and ends up in the gutter a lot? These are generally caused by lack of entry angle.

Adjustments are just the opposite of the ringing ten. Go with a ball that is more angular (skip/snap). Try and project the ball further into the dry down the lane making it hook harder (less direct path). Throw slower giving the ball a chance to hook more. Throw harder to delay the hook.

Pay attention to your shot shape and how it is entering into the pocket. It will give you clues on how to adjust.

While 10 ten pins is a large number it is not out of the question for reasonable carry, particularly with new wood. If your carry percentage overall was 65+% then I wouldnâ€™t worry about it, pick up your spares and go on.

In addition to what Pinbuster said also take note of the burn rate of your ball.
If the ball is burning up too much you will leave 10 pins. Are you watching the burn rate of your ball?

If the ball is NOT burning up at all then it may still be skidding a little when it hits the head pin which will cause it to deflect too much. Yes it can also NOT burn up and hit the head pin too strong but then you would be leaving 4 pins or 9 pins and not 10 pins. Also if the ball is NOT burning up it can be going too deep down the lane before it makes its turn. This was covered in what Pinbuster said.

Also are you paying attention to your breakpoint target on every shot?
If not then the 10 pin shots may not be making it outside the river of oil.

If your carry problems just started with the new pins, odds are that the bottoms on the pins are causing part of your problem. Pinbuster and Magic Carpet have given you some good general info, but they failed to mention that the bottoms on new pins aren't rounded off at all, so they don't fall down quite as easily as those with more games on them.

I agree with mumzie.
In the 2 weeks between now and the start of the tourny I think you will find your old carry returning. Im hoping the same at our lanes where we have had the same thing.
Im not too worried with the small drop in average at this time as I know it will be better as the pins wear in so to speak.
I myself have left loads of single pins in the last week and I know Im flushing the rack because slight moves just seem to change the pin Im leaving. A ringing 10 becomes a 9 or a 4 if I change, so I think you should just stick it out and carry will improve." Hopefully"

By the way where are your lanes?

My Lanes at at the Airport Bowl heathrow. Do you happen to bowl at HaverfordWest?
