Less hook and weak hitting power are the 2 main indicators.

A rash of unexpected 7-10s or 8-10s (righty) or 7-9s(lefty) are unwelcome surpises that say, ball needs immediate attention.

Do not ditch a "dead" ball; 99% can be resuscitated.

ya, mines dead...a raging inferno with like 500 games on it. it last for alot of them too.

Ill get mine resurfaced and get back to you on how much it helps.

I'd say that is quite a few. Depending which Company the balls are from. that could be a "Hail of a Lot of Games."

500 !! it must be dead, if you put more than 5 revs on the ball.  I usually keep balls up to 250, after that, trash em.

Depending on the type of ball 500 games could be considered a bunch.  If a particle ball has 500 games on it, I would say this is quite a bit.  I have an HPD with thousands of games, it is stilling hooking.  I have never had a ball quit on me.  I have a Werewolf with thousands on it as well.  Generally, reactive balls will hold up better than particles.
