Mid Lane Balls....Question's About Them
« on: September 10, 2003, 08:26:09 AM »
I am seeing a lot about balls that read the mid lanes these days. My question is......Do these types of balls work better for a certain style, or releases more so than others? What is the best oil pattern for these balls? Does a ball with a strong mid lane read move up a notch on handling oil compared to one that does not? What is the best way to drill one of these to make them work correctly? Are mid lane balls more angular?  Thanks Gom

Mid-lane read is for arc and control.  So if you are on a pattern or if you have a style that needs to add control, then go with a ball that reads the mid-lane well.  But if the shot is wide-open for you, a skid/flip ball will generally give you more power.

If you look at the trends in bowling, urethane balls in the 80's had a arcing style hook.  Resin came along in the 90s with more skid/flip.  Resin had less control but a lot more power.  Ever since then they've been trying to find a way to have the best of both worlds, control & power.
