cell vs my other balls
« on: April 24, 2008, 02:23:08 PM »
i used my cell for the first time on tuesday..wow.  its drill 5x3b and is OOB, and that thing moves alot.  for comparison, and i think fairly similar drillings, here are the lines i play with good success:

vapor zone: 7 at the arrows to 4 at the break point at 35 feet, been my line for 4 months straight and seems to be getting very squirrely lately.
fury: 11 at the arrows 4 at the break point at closer to 40 feet, when the vapor zone isnt enough this works great.
cell:  20 at the arrows, 6 at the break point at about 45 feet.  wow. its 15 lbs instead of 16 like the others but the speed is still about the same as with the others, rev rate isnt different.
even my oil monster doesnt hook this much:
reaction roll, pin above fingers not sure of the position of cg etc, 500 abralon, most i can play is 13 at the arrows 5 at the break point around 40-45 feet.

closest thing to the cell's reaction for me was a visionary executioner purple ice.  relative to my other equipment (el nino 2000 and green gargoyle instead of vapor zone and the fury), i had to make a similarly big step right.  the big difference is so far, the cell hasnt burnt up, whereas the executioner would stop moving after about a game, would go almost dead straight.

just my first impression of the cell, hope the comparisons help a little.

the green gargoyle is very strong on the back end...i didnt throw it much this year but when i did i was usually around 10 at the arrows and 3 or 4 at 40 feet.  the angle entry was just unreal.  i shined it up to add length, and its much more tame now.

Yes, but when the Cell is hitting the pocket, the Green Meanie is skidding about 75 feet before even trying to make the turn.

iowalefty,

Some of that large hook is due to that longish, 5" pin to PAP. That's kind of long for an oiler. That makes the Cell more of a medium oil ball, unless, of course, you have a LOT (around 400+ rpms) of hand. When the Cell saves up energy, it usually release it in the form of hook. If you tried it at 4000 grit instead of the stock 2000 grit, I think you'd even be more shocked.

I only say this because I have used the Cell with a bunch of surface adjustments and I remain amazed at how well it has taken to every one of them.

i wont say i have alot of hand, if i had to guess no more than 350 rpm.  heck couldnt tell you my axis tilt and all that either.  my teammate went to 4000 abralon with his cell, and it cut down his overall motion considerably, also he said hurt his carry.  so he went back to oob.  i tend to stay oob with my equipment, unless its a niche ball, like my reaction roll (older ball for heavy oil that can be used at houses that can chew up a ball).  i dropped down to 15# with the cell, and ive noticed i can throw the ball a bit harder.  i dont know if its the best ball, but it is pretty good lol.

FYI I started a brief thread on the Cell polished, a couple of days ago. Take a look at it.

thanks charles, it is something i can consider.  first thing i plan to do is to see how well i can increase my ball speed.  normal is 16-16.5, sometimes low 17mph.  dropping down a lb might allow me to get 17.5+, without sacrificing too much accuracy.  its a great ball if the outsides dont want to cooperate, as has been the case last few weeks.  if my speed control decreases with the increase in speed, i will strongly consider minor tweaking of the surface.
