It's their website and message board. Until you pay for the right to use it they can do whatever they want. Doesn't mean we have to like it but they can do that.

But the PBA isn't the government. The PBA owns its forum and has the right to do with it what it pleases, including censorship.

Having said that, what they did was stupid, but stupid is not unconstitutional.

I quit posting on that forum almost a year ago now and I don't miss it. Poorly moderated, too many trolls, and a handful of posters with PBA cards that think their **** doesn't stink.

Yes. Obviously it was on TV and no one from other sports or media outlets watch it or really cared that much. Eventually it got some press and play because of the fact it was a women beating the men. It still doesn't change the fact it was bowling and no one out side of people who participate in bowling actually watch it.

What kind of media would it get if she wasn't bowling and Barnes or whomever would have won?.....little to none.

Think about other sports like football, baseball, basketball, ect. How many people who've never played in an organized form of a particular sport such as the big 3 still watch it? A lot. Now take into mind all the millions of non-league bowling people who bowl from time to time. How many of them watch bowling? Slim to none. The proof is in the ratings.

I love bowling and can't even remember to record it half the time because its on sunday mornings and I'm too occupied with other sports and always forget about bowling. So you can imagine how little non-bowlers could care to watch it.

They censored the posts mentioned, but have left up a bunch of other crap about how Kelly winning is bad for bowling, bad for the PBA, blah, blah, blah...  Just like what Jess says, that site pretty much sucks, don't post over there hardly ever.

I understand that it's their site and they own it. But if you do this enough times to people posting on your site, they will stop coming to your site.

Obviously, without question, PBA has the right to monitor and censor their own discussion boards as they so please.

However, does anyone feel that in lieu of the stuff PBA DOESN'T CENSOR (name-calling, personal insults, miscellaneous negative comments galore), the forum moderators weren't too wise to censor comments by a longtime bowling writer who made it clear that if the censorship continued (which it obviously did), a widely-distributed bowling column would result?

Just like a tournament director can rerate someone for no reason at all, a forum moderator can delete posts for no reason at all. Even so, this seems like blatant censorship. Someone says news of a big tourney is slow to develop and gets censored for saying that. Seems like someone at PBA is ashamed that some of their own aren't doing their jobs.

May I assume MF is the original poster? If so, that wasn't a bad column.

David, I may be wrong but I think the column at the top was only talking about the first few hours after the show. I also saw a lot of publicity about Kelly but I don't remember how long after the show it was.

Dear Bill:

For your information, I have written a bowling column for nearly three decades, during which time, I have covered quite a few PBA events, written articles for the PBA yearbooks and often mentioned the PBA in columns.

And I can assure you (and others) that NOT ONCE in all those years did I write a single thing negative about the PBA, its staff or its players.

However, you should know by now that I am STRONGLY OPPOSED to censorship in just about any form. Now, I do believe forum moderators should censor name-calling, profanity and flagrant demeaning attacks on other posters ... but they should NOT censor opinions. In my opinion, forums that censor opinions shouldn't even exist.

OMG, mighty fish has found his way to here from the bowl.com forums.  Please, please go back.  We really don't need or want your ridiculous posturing on all things wrong with USBC, your local association, and how somebody didn't follow parliamentary procedure at the last league meeting.  1500 post-length threads is this guy's specialty.  Noooooooooooooooooooo.

Why would I ever go back to the bowl.com forums? Did you read my latest column? Do you not know my views on censorship?

As of Aug. 3, the bowl.com forums became the "poster child" for forum censorship, claiming to not allow anything negative toward USBC or the game of bowling. Unless a person wants to heap praise on USBC, why would they attempt to post in those forums any longer?
