Title: CG Near Thumb......OK?
Post by: TheGom on August 03, 2014, 11:14:28 PM
Looking at a ball for a friend....I see a pin down drilling with the CG just above the thumb and to the right. Pin looks to be about a 4" pin.

More often then not I see layouts that suggest the CG to be placed near the center line  but with some wiggle room up or down, left or right.

So what about it near the Thumb?  OK?

it's okay as long as it weighs out legal

My best rolling ball of all time had a cg close to the thumb.

My best rolling ball of all time had a cg close to the thumb.

I had a Crossroad that rolled amazing with a pin under ring and cg to the right of thumb. Was long and smooth, eventually added a hole to increase the flare when I needed a little more reaction downlane and the ball became a monster on the back

Pin to pap dictates flare potential...CG placement means nothing in regards to reaction or motion...it merely represents a measurement in a static sense

To add to what Ric said, with a long pin and with static weights involved due to USBC rules you can manipulate ball drillings a lot more..
