Anyone use Ron Clifton's "Magic Carpet?"
« on: August 07, 2004, 05:36:20 AM »

I just read info on Ron Clifton's "Magic Carpet," a type of tape for the thumbhole. The concept looks interesting... has anyone tried it?

A lot of people on this site use the Magic Carpet. I used to use a lot of it, but since shortening my span, I still use it some, but not all that much. On a longer span, I always use it. Talk to Strider and Sawbones about this tape. They are big proponents of it as well as a buch of others.

In fact Sawbones has Stock in that company and receives a dividen check each month.

I've used it for quite awhile now and obviously I like it.

It snugs up the thumbhole and yet still allows the thumb room to swell so I end up using less tape than I used to.  Before I was always adjusting the fit tighter or looser with tape as my thumb swelled or shrunk with changes in the humidity.  Having a snugger fit in the thumbhole is better for my game.  When it is looser, I tend to squeeze a bit and that is a no-no.

I recommend trying it for yourself.  There are a few people who dont care for it, but the majority of bowlers that I have given samples to have ended up liking it.  PM Magic Carpet (Ron Clifton) and he will send you a couple of samples to try.

Edited to add:

I need to find out about these dividend checks I keep hearing about.

I have been using it for about a year and a half and I have it in every ball.
It helped me to not have to pull tape out as often due to swelling. Since it will compress a bit it allows for a bit of swelling and it allows for a quicker release, due to the fact that air can flow through it and prevent the vaccumn affect.

I can pretty much say it flat out sucks (IF YOU DON'T HAVE A THUMB).

I love the stuff, gives that snug feeling yet comes off clean and consistant every time, (as long as you throw the ball right)
