Would this be worth trying?
« on: September 08, 2004, 07:57:50 AM »
Hey everyone,

I just read a post about the White Dot league and it got me thinking about some things. First of all, I've had an idea for a league like that for quite a while, but there just aren't enough people in my area that would take the hit to their averages. Oh well, that's why I started the Old School Open. I figure if they won't humble themselves for an entire season, one day is better than nothing. Anyhow, here is my question: would using a plastic ball, such as a White Dot, Maxim, whatever, exclusively be a good way to prepare for tougher tournament conditions? I know that every tournament shot is different, and I also know that some THS are so dry that plastic is a viable option anyhow. What I'm getting at, however, is that by using plastic all of the time, and, thus, forcing yourself to control your speed, projection angle, rotation, etc, much more carefully, you should be able to keep yourself in play on a wider variety of conditions, thus, improving scoring. Now, I realize that this would only happen if you busted your tail to make sure that you actually did improve in those above mentioned areas. Does anybody think that this type of training would work? In addition, how many of you would be willing to take the potentially large hit to your average that would come with trying such a thing, if it meant that you would improve in the long run? This may be a stupid idea, but I want to know what the rest of you think.
