Is it me or is there a fixation with 'angularity' ....

with the majority of new balls?  Are we (as bowlers) making balls 'house' or 'condition' specific?

IMO, hook has a more visual effect overall.  That's why many use the wrong ball for the wrong conditions.  That being said, why do we have such a difficult time practicing the "Less is more" theory?

When obsessive hook is neutralized, do you quit because the ball doesn't 'hook' enough to satisfy your occular expectations?  Last I checked, score is kept by knocking 10 pins down.  No extra credit or brownie points for the method in which you did it.

So, when are angular rolling balls non effective?  Still, it's not so much the ball, but moreso the bowler

With all else being equal, I think a greater entry angle (up to the limits most can achieve on a bowling lane) will result in greater pin carry..  A while back, BTM had a series of sport bowling articles regarding entry angle and how to achieve it.  Also included in those articles were some statistics... I forget exactly, but it seems that higher entry angles corresponded with higher average bowlers....  Pro's had greater entry angle than top Amateurs, which were greater than higher average league bowlers, etc...

So for the average bowler who lines up left and throws right (and isn't able to play a specific board or break point), more length and a greater backend reaction resulting in an increased entry angle should result in greater carry....providing they can hit the pocket.  I think the catch is that these highly angular balls are often very hard to control especially outside of the walled up house shots.

Personally I have fallen into the buying balls for different shots or different houses. I own 4 right now, I know that is not alot, but in Maine I was throwing only 2 and averaged in the 190's.

But now I think people do not want to move, they want to stand the same place, throw the same line and get strikes no matter what the condition is. So to do that, they buy a new ball. Is it a bad thing, all depends on the wife factor. Wether she allows the purchase of a new ball. But it depends on what the bowler wants to do. If they are comfortable with adjusting, then that is what they will do. If not, then they will buy a new ball everytime they feel they need one. So to me, it is a personal choice.

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE & PYRO. STAND 18 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND SMASH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING!!!

I must be doing this wrong. I'm trying to find balls that hook less, but still have lots of energy at the pocket.

I knew I wasn't the only one. I do own some skid/snap type balls, but seldom see a condition that I can score on consistently with them without taking alot of hand out of the ball. I just want to be able to play the simplest and most repeatable line that I can and score well.

Whether you think you can, or whether you think you can't... you're probably right.

Man, I used to think i wanted the most angular thing i could get. I got the Doom and I really like the ball but it made me think of how much i miss my hot rod hybrid's smooth arcing reaction. I just prefer a smoother reaction even though I feel I carry much better and have shot better with the Doom.
