I have been considering trying to change my slide length and make it shorter or not much slide at all. I just feel like my slide is too long and it's causing me a lot of balance issue at the line. Plus I think the fact that I'm getting older doesn't help either. lol
Does anybody have any tips on how to go about this without hurting myself?

How long is your current slide? Like half the approach or a couple of inches?
-
My slide is around a foot and a half...

Resizing slides does not make your presentation larger or smaller, Since each ruler has a logarithmic scale, it is possible to align them to read the logarithmic sum of the numbers, and thus calculate the product of the two number.

0.0 inches.

I would think that a shorter slide (or no slide) would put extra pressure on the knees.
In addition, it could result in balance issues of its own, particularly for older bowlers.
I'm a senior (old schooler). A while back, I attempted to shorten my slide in order
to develop later timing. The idea was to be better able to develop more hand leverage at release. The end result was that it simply didn't work for me. It created more stress on my knees. As a result, I abandoned it and I have resorted back to sliding.
Of course, everyone is different. What didn't work for me might not be your experience.

If you're going to change to a no-slide (or very little slide) approach, be sure to move up on the approach to compensate for your much-shorter last step. Otherwise, it could really mess up your timing and balance.

Thanks for the information and your experiences. I just feel like I'm stretching or extending myself to much in my slide or at the end of my approach and it is causing me some balance issues. Any idea's on things I could try to correct this?

How did this problem happen?

I would bet that your balance issues are something else in your approach versus your last step.
-
The only thing I can think might be a contributing factor is I increased my ball speed so maybe trying to throw it harder might be an issue.

I've had this problem before, with my too long slide causing balance issues.
Fix was to replace the worn out heel on my bowling shoe.
