Changing Surface by Hand
« on: February 04, 2010, 11:38:15 PM »
I'm thinking about picking up some Abralon pads so I can adjust the surface of the ball by hand on the fly if need be, but I was curious if there is a recommended process of applying the pads to the ball?

I use the 6 sided method when it's on a spinner, but wasn't sure if I literally just buff up the entire ball with the pad in a circular motion?

Thanks ahead of time...

moto, ive used abralon by hand with great success. one thing ive found is abralon is more user freindly by hand than sandpaper, meaning you can get a truer, more even pattern with the abralon than regular sandpaper.

as a side note, ive found i like abralon by hand better than on a spinner. especially if say i want to just have a ball at 4000, without going through the whole 500, 4000 process. ive been using 1000 by hand abralon for tournament shots lately and its been giving me a great look on fresh patterns like Kegel''s dead man''s curve, and The Beaten Path.

as for how to do it, i normally just start with the grip center of the ball in my palm and work around the entire ball, then start with the finger holes parallel to the floor and work around the entire ball that way too. basically applying the abralon in 2 directions.

You wouldn't have to buy their product to duplicate their technique.  --  JohnP

Hmmm, this could be rather useful to the bowler who don't have much time between work and bowling or the family man who need's to tend to the family. Plus it's not too overly expensive.
