This is brought about by the "Pro Thing" in the Dynothane board.
Why do manufacturers make balls differently for overseas? Different names and colour etc. Not sure of the core.
What if I have a oversea bowler that wants me to buy a ball here to send it to him/her?
What's different on the lanes there that a ball sold here in N.America cannot be used there.
We have Aussie bowlers on this board. Are the balls you buy is Oz. different from ours? Or do you know?
I am a transplanted Malaysian and started my bowling in Malaysia long ago. To me the lanes are the same. Oiling also similiar. When I do go back every couple of years and bowls there the reaction requirements from the ball is the same as here except for those playing "helicopter shots".
When oversea bowlers participate in the ABC nationals do they bring their oversea balls over or buy a complete new arsenal here?

Alright, first things first. Companies make overseas balls usually to match overseas conditons which tend to be different or thats what I have heard, though it seems you have expierenced different. But you have to realize that overseas balls are mostly clones of ones sold here, columbia likes to do this, for reasons I am not sure of. Almost all overseas balls that are 'unique', even to the slightest extent, are almost always sold in Japan, Korea, or Malaysia. Autralia does not have many overseas ball not sold in the USA, though that may change with storms new wave of them (look on thier website). The legality of ball depends on if the ball is on the list, which most of them are, and the company. Columbia tends not to approve most of them, while storm does for example. Here are some examples of balls excluseve to countries and worldwide editions:

Just from some conversations I've had with our guys,...Overseas balls (D/T) are ABC approved but not PBA, don't ask why I don't know. Overseas balls are sold and made by ordered requests in lots. That's why they have a different ID name or number for tracking and manufacturing. Sometimes a requestor will order a specific change to a production ball,..ie different weight block,..or color,..from what I've seen on most all overseas balls ( not all but most) is they prefer big weight blocks, and shells that will polish, just my observation. I spent 12 years in Europe and what I encountered was lots of centers that tend to be wood,...run medium to light oil, and usually only condition lanes once a day. When we first came out with the Au79, and I was sent one of the first seed balls, the label on the ball had "Dynothane 900 and Element Au79" on it. The DynoThane 900 I'm told was added to the label for the Au79s going overseas,..exactally the same ball as the one for the US, but with a label identifer for overseas. I guess they sent me one by mistake, but it's the same ball,..."Most" are the same as what we can get in our pro shops, but there are a few out there that have a change here and there...jim
