Ball Return capping can be made out of ordinary wood from lumberyards,Home Depot,etc- probably a lot cheaper than what the bowling manufacturers want.

Probably some 1 x 10s, paint, and a little elbow grease will do the trick.

Lol, no, they need to get RID of the ball return capping.  They painted it and tried to make it look all pretty.  As far as the money, this center is one of the two prominent centers in the city.  And if they don't spend more on upkeep, they're gonna be spending a lot more when the stuff breaks down and they have to replace it.

Hammy free or not atleast it is something.  shoot the house we bowl our mixed league the owner is trying to sell.  He has been for quite a few years.  The ceiling leaks.  He oils with a bug sprayer and a mop.  No automatic scoring.  Your ball doesn't come back then I guess you better get your butt back there and look for it.  Lanes hasn't even been resurfaced in 5 years.  My wife likes it there though go figure.

Hey Hammy send this idiot some handouts.  I actually considered buying this house cause he only paid 138,000 for it 6 years ago 8 lanes game room restaurant and bar area.  Guess what he wants for it though.  382,000.  Damn ain't america great do nothing run a business in the ground then try to get more than twice what you paid for it.

I was all ready to give him a break because of putting in laneshield, buying a new lane machine, replacing the kickbacks and sidewalls as well as resurfacing the approaches.

And the rest of the stuff cost how much????  Your bowling center isn't making any more money than the proshop you work in.

The Laneshield might have been almost free, but I bet the full resurface required before installation wasn't. Our center is the first in Texas and I know what it cost. The add over a resurface may have been small when compared to installing full synthetics, but it still was not cheap. The cost of the resurface and installation runs somewhere between $1500 and $1800 per lane bed from what I hear, ours was in that range. Multiply that by 16 lanes for an example. At lets say $1600 that brings the total to at least $25,600. Not chicken feed, but a heck of a deal compared to what Brunswick wants for ProAnvilane. Oh, and that lane machine if it is a new Phoenix thats is around $15000, if it is sanction technology add another $10000 or so. So your cheap owner just forked out between $40000 and $60000 minimum. I would give him a little credit for moving in the right direction. You have to start somewhere and the lanes is a good first place since that has the biggest affect on scoring and that is what most bowlers whine about first. The next improvement might be scoring or machines, maybe some of the asthetics.

Oh, the bowling center is making plenty.  The lane machine is a brand new Phoenix, it was 30,000.  His pits were chewing balls up at a record number.  When you have nailheads sticking up on the approaches, that kinda sucks too.  I'm willing to give him SOME credit, but the only reason he's doing it is because he's losing a bunch of bowlers.  You'd just have to know the guy, he's cheap, irritating, and his wife's worse.  He wouldn't have done a thing if his business wasn't in danger.  The other newer house in the city is awesome.  The people that run it are great.  They might have more money coming in, granted, because they also have 18 holes of mini golf and a go kart track, but stuff is kept up and kept in good shape.  I mean, the manager had all the bumpers replaced just because sturdier ones came out.  There was nothing wrong with the other bumpers at all.  He listens to the bowlers, and acts.  He gets respect that he's earned.  This other guy just does stuff to save his butt.

Lol, I'm sure, but it sounds like you know what I'm talking about.  That's kinda what I mean too, it's not only the bowlers he's doing a disservice to, it's his own equipment.  The absolute funniest thing is that there was actually a PBA stop at this house back a while ago.  Bob Learn Jr. won, and the idiot that owns the place actually got to put the jacket on him.

How do you know he is making plenty of money? Have you seen his books?

The price of natural gas to heat the place is going thru the roof this winter are you willing to pay extra for the utility bill increase? How about his current electric bill with all this 100 degree heat?

As Tex said he probably spent over $50k this summer that is a lot of lineage. As I said until you are ready to put up some of your own hard earned money try and not be so critcal.

Actually it's the only other place in the city that I have the time to bowl at.  I'm in the pro shop every day of the week from 12-8, and to be eligible to bowl our annual Top Ten city tournament I have to bowl in two different houses to begin with.  I work in the GOOD alley, lol.  So I don't really want to bowl at this other house, but my options are pretty limited.
