Cheapest air rejuvenator
« on: March 27, 2018, 05:33:35 PM »
If you were wondering how to make a cheap air based reliable rejuvenator, you only need 3 things:

1) the cheapest hair dryer you can get
2) the cheapest storage container you can get that a bowling ball fits in
3) a digital meat thermometer

Steps:
1) cut a hole into the bottom portion of the side of the container to fit the hair dryer
2) poke a hole in the top of the container lid for the meat thermometer
3) find something that elevates the ball above the air current of the hairdryer (I use an old tomato can with a towel on top of it)

Then, you run the hair dryer on low to see what temp the box reaches with the lid on. Mine reached 120, so it was perfect. The plastics the storage containers are made with are usually good for much higher temps, and you can just Google what temps each one is rated for just to be sure. All for 25 bucks or less, depending on if you already have the supplies.

P.s. Make sure the air isn't directly hitting the ball. Also, don't just leave it unattended, the temp controller is you and your eyes looking at the gauge constantly. Make sure you get the temp you want before putting any bowling ball in it. If your ball cracks, then who cares because it was dead anyways and you have 200 bucks left over from not buying a fancy overpriced dehydrator.

Your system might work fine, but this is a poorly thought out statement.  Most people de-oil balls they like to use.  For the price of the very first ball you crack doing it this way you could have just done it right.

Built my own for just under $80 using a $60 food dehydrated and a $9 18 gallon rubbermaid tub.

My strategy for "cheapest rejuvenator" is to maintain an excellent relationship with my PSO - he let's me use the Jayhawk Detox free of charge.  I always offer him something to use it but he never takes my money for it.

best homemade is a food dehydrator and use a dremel to cut the trays out.  but a ball cup in the bottom, drill a hole in the top and insert a quality meat thermometer in it.  That is essentially the prototype used for the rejuvinator being sold online

Exactly right.  Mine is a clone of the NuBall rejuvinator, does an awesome job for a lot cheaper, less than $100 to build.

That is a good point, however I do have a question to pose back to you. Is a ball worth the same as it was new if it doesn't perform like new? Say you got 50 games out of it and now it doesn't move the same. Resurfacing I would say would be the best and safest next step, but if that doesn't work, what is the ball worth then? I also believe that most stories of balls cracking are anecdotal at best, for example, the bowling balls that I have had crack on me are ones I never rejuvenated. Does this prove anything? No, as with most other stories. Everybody has an opinion on why balls crack, which the only conclusion that can be drawn from that is that there hasn't been a consistent enough reason for them to crack.

I have a question for y'all. I am new to the air rejuvenation world, I was a hot water bath and dishwasher (my personal favorite) guy, where you clearly see oil in the water. Do you see oil bleed in the air rejuvenators? I did one rejuvenation on my marvel s and didn't see much at all, but on the lanes it was a whole new ball, it was beautiful. I have a dehydrator laying around somewhere, and one day my curiosity will peak enough do go cut it up and use it for bowling balls if enough people convince me lol.

I have the Nuball Rejuvenator. I've done a handful of bowling balls and so far only one has given off enough oil to drip off into the collection cup. The majority of the balls just have oil all over the surface of the ball when the time is up. Also they tell you, if the ball doesn't have a lot of oil in it, that oil that does come to the surface can evaporate off.
