Hey Guys,

I just started shipping stuff out to my new friends here in BR and I'm trying to find out from those with experience, who's has the lowest rate? Fed-Ex, UPS, or Post office? Thanks for your help....

fedex is way cheaper than ups, alot of times quicker too, not real good on tracking though. rep told me they are working on that part with wireless devices.

Fed ex Ground is by far the cheapest and NEVER EVER use the post office.. Did I say NEVER EVER use the post office. If you do, be prepared to file an insurance claim because they lost your ball or you will pay double what Fed ex ground charges for their Priority Mail service..

Fed ex ground has $100 free inurance and they deliver on saturdays for free..

Go with Fed ex ground, you won't be sorry. I have shipped approx 100 balls, bags and shoes with them over the past year and had problems 3 or 4 times. Thats pretty good odds in my book..

Fedex Ground is by far the most economical, most reliable service out there - when the weight of a package gets over 5 pounds.
Before that, UPS is cheaper.

I shipped 4 15# bowling balls to Vegas last year. It cost me $18 from Oregon via fed ex ground. It would have been cheaper if I'd sent them to a business rather than a residence.

My husband ships lots and lots of stuff. We've never had a breakage claim from Fed Ex ground, either. But if an item is just a teeny bit fragile, you can bet the UPS gorillas are all over it.

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS! Great info, I just got robbed. I just sent a 15lb ball from California to Iowa for $26.70 thru priority mail(they were closer). FYI, Post Office does offer a tracking number(55 cents more) but I'll never do that again, thanks for your help.

Rick,

Usually the post office is cheaper, and MUCH slower. They do not offer tracking numbers, what that the 55 cents gets you is them telling you when it was delivered.

UPS directly from a UPS office is the way I go. MUCH more reliable, and they automatically cover up to $100.

Rick - I told you last time about shipping. I guess you don't remember.

It is about 18.00 to ship a ball from CA to anywhere else. I went to a postal annex that does Fed Ex and they wanted to charge me 24.XX for a 17 lb package. I shipped it for 17.XX UPS.

I am going to try another Fed Ex place to see if it is really cheaper. I just don't have one close enough. According to the Fed Ex guide it should have only cost 13.XX. The Postal annex is getting over on people. Good thing I asked how much first.

forget the post office...they either lose everything or get it there 3 weeks after someone needs it. ups is very reliable, as is fedex, and i would say that either of them would be the most reliable way to ship. but remember one thing...when u ship something to a place like, say, iowa, they are going to charge you extra because it is a rural area. i just shipped a ball there from nyc, thinking it would be around $14 or $15 by ups ground like usual, and it came out to $20. thats why the rate there is ridiculous. i could send the same ball to st. louis for $13. alot has to do with where its going. but dont fall for the trap with the lower post office prices. theres a reason why its usually cheaper. so pick fedex or ups...either one should be fine.

FEDEX Ground is about 20% cheaper than UPS ground; they deliver it across the country in 5 days instead of 7, they insure up to $100 as does UPS, and both have online accounts so you can set-up a delivery, print the complete mailing label with the necessary bar codes, and pre-pay withe a credit card. This way all you need to do is dump it off at the local UPS or FEDEX office.

Both are much cheaper than USPS Priority mail, although that is an option if your local UPS or FEDEX office is too far away. Never send a ball via Parcel Post, because there is no time limit on it and it can take up to a month to deliver it. USPS does not have tracking numbers; they have a Delivery Confirmation. Which means when it's delivered, it is scanned into the computer and you know it's been delivered. Insurance is extra, as is a Signature confirmation. PRIORITY MAIL is a 3-5 business day delivery and they take that fairly seriously. I know, as I do carrier work part time now.

FOr cost and time considerations, my preference is FEDEX GROUND.

I forgot you did that Charlest, I should've checked with you first, wasn't thinking. I ASSuMEd, PO would be cheaper and I had waited all that time in line, I just said, what the heck(learned my lesson). Just another quick question, for those who have used the on-line rate guide for Fed-Ex, how accurate are they in their pricing? Within a couple of bucks? Thanks!

Doc, I didn't forget, just didn't believe you(haha) cause I brought up the conversation asking you because I had just sent a 15lb ball to Ohio for $20, where'd you get $18 from? Therefore, I believe Hotwire is correct about specific location also, that makes a lot of sense. PishT, thanks but I don't really ship that much, not getting in the game of on-line cut-throating but I'll check into it too. Appreciate the help guys...newbie at this.

Does that mean that because you do work part time you have a reason to go postal on us once in awhile?

I don't mean to disagree, but all my balls from Doug Sterner are shipped UPS and they do have tracking numbers. You can look up the number everyday and it will give you the time it arrived and departed at each destination it stops at.
It also gives you the day it will be delivered and after delivery it is scanned into the computer and you know it's been delivered.

My only problem with fedex they have never been able to ship to my address. I have my number posted on the curb, on my house with 2inch gold numbers . I have had 10 packages they shiped and never made it to my house my neighbors love me. If by chance you happen to post the wrong address and it is delievered to that house and signed the insurances is useless with fedex they will not accept the claim. They will deny it based on the fact it was shipped to the "proper address".

I thought I had that before I became a part-time carrier ....

(FYI USPS is becoming more like a private corporation everyday - bottom line is all that counts. Employees are less important every day. Nice employees are becoming rarer cause they're all retiring.)

Go with FedEx. Second choice would be UPS and lastly would be the good ole USPS.
