Saving money? GOod or Bad?
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:38:09 PM »
Now I can Understand why competition is good. I can understand how one company operates to establish a monopoly over their competition. But since when did we all become so stinking rich that saving money is a bad thing. There's a hot topic right now about bowlingball.com offering free shipping, big deal. Your supplier won't go out of business if you continue to buy from him since obviously price is no object to all of us rich folks(sarcasm). On the other hand not bowling related we have presidential hopeful Obama promising tax cuts to the middle class and no one seems to be middle class because these forums get blasted by others saying their going to be taxed to death. Now coorect me if i'm wrong but too many times have I logged on to see some proshop op saying something to the effect that sales are down. If sales aren't that great and you business doesn't earn 250,000 you will get a tax break, and maybe some healthcare to go with it. Now i'm not looking for a handout but if someone says you can pay x amount of dollars or x amount of dollars and a discount, that's a no brainer. Am I wrong for taking advantage of a good deal?

You make some real good points.  However in regards to Obama.  He comes from Chicago.  And Cook county is all Democratic controlled. And they have raised taxes on the middle class.  The highest in the nation.  This is what Obama is all about. Sure now he tells you one thing, and when he gets in,  He will do what his teachers in Chicago taught him to do.  Raise  taxes.
Just ask anyone who lives in Cook county.

When the big O gets in, you won't have to worry about taxes because we all will earn the same wage and pay the same anyways. After all that is what being a part of socialism is all about. Oh and that's not to mention what will happen to our country when the people that are supporting him financially, ask for the favors he has promised them. Come talk to me when the s*!t hits the fan then. Tax breaks will be the furthest thing from your mind.

That's what they said about FDR in '31!  Come up with something else.  Bush = Hoover.  Need change just for changes sake.  It can't be any worse.  You really think the 2 party system is all that different???...........I don't think so.

CD:/Back to the OP

Nothing wrong with saving money. Nothing wrong with making money either, that is what capitalism is all about.  Finding a way to do what you want and make all the money you can at it.

What most of the people complaining about bowlingball.com are saying is that, because of his size, volume, and amount of money involved, bowlingball.com has too much advantage over them and shouldn't be allowed to do what he is, mainly SELLING ONLINE because he is supposed to be a DISTRIBUTOR, not competing with proshops for business.

Thing is, a distributor is in business to sell products.  If a market opens up that allows them to legaly sell their products to a very large market share, it is up to them to take advantage of that. And, they have.

The only reason the small guys are complaining is they are losing their large markup in consumer pricing.  Don't cry to me about it, I used to work in a shop and I KNOW how big the markup is.

The little guy is hurting, I know that.  Times are hard enough to make it without someone else coming in with lower prices.  Problem is, this is ( and SHOULD BE ) a market driven economy.  Sadly, that means survival of the fittest and nobody is going to care if you survive but you.  If you can't make it, YOU SHOULD CLOSE YOUR DOORS and FIND SOMETHING ELSE YOU CAN make it at.

It's not that I am UN-sympathetic. I understand completely, heck, I've even been the guy it happened to.  I went and found something else I could make a living at.

I've never really understood guys with shops that want to make a full time living at a part time job, based solely on a recreational activity that they are not in control of.  Sort of like trying to get rich selling umbrellas when you can't control the weather, you make plenty of money as long as you're the only one selling them.
